Hi. I had a lumpectomy 2 weeks ago with 2 lymph nodes removed. I’m told I will have 5 sessions of radiotherapy but have consult next week to confirm. I feel relatively ok except for what I think is nerve pain - sometime tingling and sometimes shooting pain. I was taking paracetamol and ibuprofen but have stopped. The ibuprofen was upsetting my stomach. Is there anything else you would recommend to main the nerve pain? Also, I got myself a good bra from John Lewis and wear this during the day. Is there anything else harm taking off at night (I really hate bras!).
Hi there, good to hear you are through your surgery and yes, I had a lot of discomfort and tingling snd shooting pains for quite some time after surgery, but if it's worrying you, don't hesitate to get it checked out. In terms of bras, I'm a G cup so I needed the support but I bought so,e crop tops to wear at night, surprisingly comfy. Best wishes
Hi NetherGirl
I stopped wearing a bra in bed after a couple of weeks as felt comfortable and was healing nicely and had no issues. I figured they were only offering light support and was almost more of a psychological than physical support. I also hated any bras that I thought made me look/feel like a ‘patient’, that’s just how I felt, and abandoned those and back to my usual underwear after about three weeks (yes, I like an underwire!).
Regarding the nerve pains, they happened for maybe a month for me (can’t recall exactly). They do lessen in frequency over time but if you are worried give your BCN a call for reassurance.
Best of luck with the rest of your treatment. Hope everything goes well for you. x
Please look up a company called Macom Medical. They do surgical bras for ladies who have had lumpectomies and mastectomies. I wore one for six months it was so comfortable. My surgeon suggested the brand to me. I’m so relieved he did it was the best thing ever. You’ll find it so comfortable you’ll be able to wear it in bed.
As for painkillers how about codiene. Although I don’t like taking that. I had a trapped nerve in my back and was prescribed that with naproxen which is also like ibuprofen.
I’d go to your GP and ask what they can prescribe you that won’t affect your stomach.
