I’ve read that E45 is a good option to moisturise/help protect the skin prior to radiotherapy. How effective has that been for you and which E45 cream did you use (there seem to be loads of options)? Did you apply it regularly or just immediately prior to the radiotherapy.
thanks a lot.
I was told to moisturise in the lead up to radiotherapy, I’m very fair skinned and it seemed to help with any skin reddening or burning. Just had to make sure skin clear of any creams prior to being zapped. Makes sense I suppose as you start off from a good skin condition base.
Hi SEE , at my radiotherapy planning meeting they advised me to moisturise 3 times per day, but to make sure that it was all absorbed, not sitting on the skin, well before each actual session. I think they said to apply it at least 2 hours before. They didn’t recommend a cream but I’d heard about Aveeno here and also aloe Vera so I used them. But some places will have their own recommendations and guidelines. Good luck with it all! Love and hugs, HFxx
My unit gave me Hyaluronic Acid cream to use after each session because it traps moisture but stressed to shower and remove all cream before the radiotherapy. They recommended Savon surgras with no perfume to clean the skin. I had to have 33 sessions of Radiotherapy because I had triple negative bc and had reacted badly to chemo missing my last dose but my skin never burnt or even reddened. (I was blond with very fair skin.)
E45 wasn't recommended at my clinic as many contain lanolin which they said isn't so good with the radiative rays.
I hope your radiotherapy goes well.
I was told to just use aqueous cream, they even gave me a tube. They said not to spend a lot of money and that was as good as anything and told me to use it for a few weeks before it started. I notice that someone has recommended steroid cream, I really hate to contradict someone else, and I must stress I’m not medical, but having a long history with steroid creams for other reasons and because it thins the skin and can’t be used on broken or scabbed skin it is best avoided for radiotherapy unless it is prescribed for a specific reason x
