I know this is a personal choice, but this is something that I have been thinking about.
I'm due to start chemo in a couple of weeks, and whilst I'm planning on cold capping, I'm aware that I may still lose the majority / all of my hair. If that happens I have decided that I will shave my head, but I'm not sure as to whether to wig or to simply rock the bald look with pride! I know that when the reality of this hits, I might change my mind, but I was just wondering what other people's experience of this has been?
I'm also not very girly and have no make-up experience, so I'm not looking forward to losing my eye-brows as drawing them on would not be an option if I want to look vaguely human! I think the only positive is that I will finally lose the chin hairs! ;)
Any comments / advice greatly appreciated.
Hi,
This question very much interests me too. Im still awaiting decision for surgery then chemo or vice versa.
Im naturally completely grey and have had rose pink hair for many years.
Its a bit of a signature look for me and the colour pprompts many compliments.
Now faced with the possibility of no or limited hair, and not advised to use hair dye i find it one of the most distressing aspects. Im the first to admit im also very vain. I also have a fringe, no never expose my forehead !!!
I do have a vast collection of scarves and have been You tubing various scarf tying styles.
Tried some this morning, including tucking all my hair in. I didn't get as upset as i thought i might and concluded that with some make-up and my glasses, and some earrings i might just pass as acceptable- to me i hasten to add. Im my greatest critic !!!
Weirdly enough haven't been interested in the wig thing so far.
Im having my eyebrows semi permanent tattooed tomorrow, so that if turns out to be chemo first, im ready.
Never worn false lashes but would consider it guess.
Sort of feeling, keep options open. Might lose hair. Might not.
Might feel like make-up, scarves , lashes etc might feel s***t and couldn't care less.
Hoping to cold cap, but im also a weight loss patient and struggle with feeling very cold a lot of the time , so again, who knows
Forgot to say about false eyebrows (they’re stick on)
also, take a look at this website where there’s lots of free courses. I highly recommend the makeup one as they teach you how to apply makeup including drawing eyebrows & you get a bag full of freebies too!
Im lucky enough to be attending one of the look good feel better, make-up and skin care groups on Thursday. Unfortunately can't find a hair care one (nor even online). Hopefully it will be informative and supportive
Hi, I'm not girly at all, never wear make up, my eyelashes are quite light so it was not really noticeable but I didn't try to replace them. But I absolutely loved my wig!!! I went for a very different style and enjoyed wearing it. Best wishes
It’s really good and you get so many freebies! I did a hair and wig one on line through that site, if you click on the link and select hair loss there’s one on 5th December on a zoom. Hopefully you can get a space!
Thanks Shellbell! Sticky eyebrows look much easier than trying to draw something on that vaguely looks like an eyebrow!
And who doesn't love a freebie
ididnt loose eyebrows until week before 3 rd paclitaxel now i draw them on with brow pencil and one of those fake micro blading brow pens, it kinda works, if i dont go out just bald brows, getting a brow growth serum for bday pressie
BC in 2023, ER + PR- HER2-
AC and taxol, grade 2a , micro in 1 lymph, 2 surgeries
gah
I'm in this dilemma too. Hoping to cold cap but met a lady today who did 1 chemo session with cold cap and lost 80% of her a week later.
I believe some wigs are available on the NHS (fitted in Paddington????).
Might see what they have to offer before I spend 100£s on one. Don't mind paying if I use it but don't want to waste money if not
Oh I’m wigging! A purple one. Currently I have been given a £120 voucher towards a new wig from the NHS ( for which I’m v happy). If their approved suppliers don’t offer a purple one then I’ll have to have two!
def not cold capping. Sounds uncomfortable, adds time on to treatment and not guaranteed so embracing the wig life
some good info on here about eyebrows. Never thought about eyebrows and eyelashes. I think I’ll go for the semi permanent tattoo depending on cost
I discovered each trust supplies a different amount of voucher towards the NHS wigs. Fortunately for me my trust is in the black
