Good morning
Had lumpectomy yesterday and as a newbie I just wanted to say for those like me who are relatively new to this Breast Cancer club I can state that it was nowhere near as bad as I thought it would be. I fully appreciate and understand that everyone's journey is different, my lumpectomy was a wire guided excision. For me the worst part was waiting as I am used to being on the go all day. Arrived at 7am to check in, wires inserted about midday at the Breast Care Unit, theatre at 3.30pm, recovery and then arrived home by 8pm. Felt totally drugged (in a nice way) all night, hardly slept yet I was comfortable. just had a nice cup of tea and now off to bed.
Like I said I know all journeys are different but hopefully my account of the day may help others. I have DCIS & LCIS
Things to take:
Good fitting front fastening bra, slippers , dressing gown & reading material, chargers for tablets/phones and download lots of different games to stem the boredom
Hope this helps and reassures anyone currently waiting.
Take care xxx
Thank you for replying. Like you I was doing Dr Google and yes agree we shouldn't. Just feeling abit low as trying to get my head round this. Hope results for you are good and margins are clear. Thank you for all the info. Take care. xxx
im so sorry to hear you still have not had results. it is quite annoying it has been so long, have you called the nurse?
and Boro, i found they will be non committal until all biopsies are done. my onco test was about three + weeks after surgery, so maybe you are on schedule
when i first started it was definitely radio, with pills as hormone receptive, but then the lymph results i got chemo on the table.
for me after the lumpectomy i found lying on my right side stomach down position best with left side(lumpectomy) protected by kind of propping my arm at and angle and under head to keep affected side above bed. can imagine its hard to visualise
BC in 2023, ER + PR- HER2-
AC and taxol, grade 2a , micro in 1 lymph, 2 surgeries
gah
Wire insertion does not hurt, nothing to worry about xxx
Thank you. I seem to have obsessed about that more than the surgery. Crazy! X
Hello Djct
I have spoken to my BCN and community nurse also called me to see how I was post surgery which was kind of them. My appointment was postponed due to Path lab overwhelmed with work and either results not yet back or no time to discuss at MDM. I am wondering if some of this could be down to consultant strikes last week. However, they know how to keep an idiot in suspense
Thank you for this information. My wire insertion , radio active dye and lumpectomy is on Tuesday. Nervous is an understatement
