Good morning
Had lumpectomy yesterday and as a newbie I just wanted to say for those like me who are relatively new to this Breast Cancer club I can state that it was nowhere near as bad as I thought it would be. I fully appreciate and understand that everyone's journey is different, my lumpectomy was a wire guided excision. For me the worst part was waiting as I am used to being on the go all day. Arrived at 7am to check in, wires inserted about midday at the Breast Care Unit, theatre at 3.30pm, recovery and then arrived home by 8pm. Felt totally drugged (in a nice way) all night, hardly slept yet I was comfortable. just had a nice cup of tea and now off to bed.
Like I said I know all journeys are different but hopefully my account of the day may help others. I have DCIS & LCIS
Things to take:
Good fitting front fastening bra, slippers , dressing gown & reading material, chargers for tablets/phones and download lots of different games to stem the boredom
Hope this helps and reassures anyone currently waiting.
Take care xxx
Good to hear about your experience as I await mine on Tuesday, and thank you for your helpful suggestions regarding the boredom busting.
Wishing you a good recovery. X
I have to say I feel pretty good considering.
I have just showered my bottom half of my body (as still cannot sleep) and 'washed' the top half using body wipes. Baby wipes are ok but these are more refreshing if that makes sense. I purchased these from Home Bargains but I expect lots of stores and online will sell them. You get two in a pack, highly recommended
glad to hear, after mine i had a fat lip, which was the worst part to start, oh and the peeing every twenty mins, but then the swollen boob for three weeks was annoying. buy second surgery was good no fat lip and no extra swelling for recision
Thank you, that’s so kind of you thinking of me ️ Hope all is going well for you too. Xx
Hello Molly, just found your story. Looking for similar lady's as I waiting to meet doctor and team next week. Have been told got dcis and have got to have op. Your story was comforting, I hope your recovery is going ok. Wanted to say did you ask any questions to your team? Take care
Hello Boro
I don't remember asking too many questions at the time but I do remember receiving non committal answers when I did pose a question. The reply was generally along the lines of 'let's deal with this one day at a time and await your results post surgery'
Unfortunately I am still awaiting my results as my follow up appointment was postponed so now hoping to be seen next week. I have been informed that even if I have clear margins I may need a course of radiotherapy. After doing much Dr Google (I know I shouldn't) it seems that many people have radiotherapy after lumpectomy when they have been diagnosed with DCIS and LCIS. If margins are not clear then another operation will be on the cards.
Generally healing wise I have felt ok, I can describe it as uncomfortable but bearable. Not sleeping to well as no position is great for a sore boob. But hopefully that will improve.
Please feel free to ask me questions anytime
I hope it all goes well for you xxx
