Hi all, so 6 months post chemo. Hair growing back, slowly. What to do? I always had long black hair. Now soft, thin, short, grey. Going to live with the grey for now. But never really went to a hairdresser. Always coloured and trimmed my own hair myself. So I don't have a hairdresser I know. It's all a bit untidy. I'm open to ideas. In fact I need advice on what to do with it. At what stage do you go to the hairdresser? What do you ask them to do? Ideally I want my long hair back. Realise that's not going to happen but would like to work towards maybe a short bob. But then if you cut it how does it ever get longer? It sounds a bit daft but I'm not sure where to start. Anyone got any guidance to get me going?
I find I can play around with the pixie cut and some product. I had some grey before chemo but I was a bit shocked at how grey it came back. It's darker now...
To be honest the haircuts have been more about thinning it out and giving it some shape. I was very lucky and a friend took me to her hairdresser just before I started chemo. He has his own salon and opened specially for me as we were in lockdown. He was fabulous and took time to cut and style my hair even though he knew it was going to fall out. He is now my hairdresser.
Thanks LHM. Had my hairdresser for 15 years so, as you indicate, she'll probably be able to advise (after she gets over the surprise of my 'transformation )
Hello,
I am roughly the same stage as yourself, last chemo was 24th Aug. I’m currently sporting dark fluffy thick semi curly hair and not a clue what to do with it!
my hair was shoulder length however I quiet like it short, just didn’t have the guts before. Obviously I would like it longer than it is now, it just feels a slow process!

I finished my chemo in October last year and first noticed wispy hairs appearing on my head at the middle of November. I started taking photos as I was struggling to see any difference. Looking back at the photos I can see how much has changed each week. I haven't been to a hairdressers yet as I'm waiting until I feel like I've something to work with. For the last 18 years I've had long, ginger, thick, straight hair, but it has come back dark with lots of grey. Penelope's offer is lovely. Maybe also if there are any local cancer support groups ask them if they know of any local hairdressers who are experienced at dealing with clients going through regrowth after chemo.
This was the first week in November
Below is just this weekend. At 2 months regrowth mine is thick but not really long enough to do anything with. Hard to tell on the pic but I managed to add a little product and make it look a little tidier. I'm impatient though and can't wait until it's long enough to style at least. I miss my visits to my hairdresser.
HappyAW that style really suits you! My hair is much greyer and much curlier so probably need to start making those big girl decisions! ( I suppose I have to be a big girl at almost 67!)
Gosh You look amazing ! I am happy to help anyone with hair issues or good hairdressers in specific areas .
Hair is so important to our self esteem .

Hi . Colours are manufactured to such a high level these days that damage will not incur used properly .
Why not try a semi permanent colour in mid brown at your salon visit ? Have they patched test you yet ? It’s a necessary procedure for all hair colour services and should be done a minimum of 48 hours before the appointment.
