Hi all, so 6 months post chemo. Hair growing back, slowly. What to do? I always had long black hair. Now soft, thin, short, grey. Going to live with the grey for now. But never really went to a hairdresser. Always coloured and trimmed my own hair myself. So I don't have a hairdresser I know. It's all a bit untidy. I'm open to ideas. In fact I need advice on what to do with it. At what stage do you go to the hairdresser? What do you ask them to do? Ideally I want my long hair back. Realise that's not going to happen but would like to work towards maybe a short bob. But then if you cut it how does it ever get longer? It sounds a bit daft but I'm not sure where to start. Anyone got any guidance to get me going?

Hi re eyebrows and lashes
Mine went towards the end but we’re all different you might get to keep yours .
I was on EC X 6 and was told emphatically that it was harsh and would lose hair in first cycle . So hairdresser cut it for me to pixie then kept it tidy .
Didn’t shave whisps off until just before last cycle . So new hair had shape .
Only just stopped using Nioxin since 2019 hair needs cutting every 4weeks to keep pixie cut which everyone decided I should keep .
good luck with rest of treatment .
Finished chemo Dec 2019 this is june 2020
Dec so a year after chemo but getting trim every 4weeks
Thanks for the photos, looking good!. My hair looks very similar to your first photo. Yours looks lovely and thick in the second. Hopefully mine will thicken up too. Fingers crossed.
Hi Northerner
thats a good thick growth , thanks for the photos
this is mine, after 3 chemos, I had very thick curly blond highlighted hair , which has now all fallen out, and left me grey patchy!! I’ think all my blond dropped out
no doubt I think it will fall out this cycle ( I’m on day 6 of EC with phesgo )
Hi Deb3112 hair loss is such a personal loss think I shed more tears at the thought of hair loss than the diagnosis .
I had shoulder length bob quite proud of thick hair at my age .
I decided to take control and had a pixie cut prior to chemo so I was in charge lol Apart from that I didn’t like the scalp pain as hair pulled on follicles .
Everyone including myself said should have done it years ago . Then followed hairdresser advice of less handling / shampoo/ and def no heat tools . Only finger dried . Loss was slow then went wispy with hilarious comb over . Scalp became painful so before no. 6 EC had it shaved off . We’re all different but I found it liberating and was quite happy to be seen in public .
This is Feb 2019 as fuzz starting to come thru thicker at back
I did have a wig in pixie style but hardly wore it as I also had beanie hats to wear and it was winter so wore them if needed .
Iblodwin, my hair used to be my crowning glory! I spent lots of time and money on it. It has been all sorts of styles and colours. In lockdown, before diagnosis it grew past my shoulders and was my natural rich dark brown. It has grown back black/grey and a different texture. I have had 3 haircuts since finishing chemo back in June. I have decided to keep it lin a low maintenance pixie cut. With each haircut the greys seem to have lessened which is great! The chemo curl is fighting hard to come through which is encouraging me to keep it short! If I want a different look I suppose I could wear one of my many wigs for an evening out or something..
Hope you're doing ok!

Hi Margaret , yes brave if you
I need a hairdresser now to cut/ trim remaining hair
my hairdresser since I was a teenager ( went to his house) died in December after being diagnosed with lung cancer 6 weeks earlier . Sense of humour, I said it was ok I no longer needed a hairdresser!

Hi LHM, I know what you mean... Always of the view that your hair is your crowning glory. A favourite family saying! I've had to have a mental readjustment there. My grey is down to age, can't change that LOL. Always loved my curls (past my shoulders), think I'll get them back in some form. Must be really weird for those who started with straight hair. I wonder if they last long term in that case or if it's just temporary? I can't imagine my hair will ever grow back healthy enough to style long so going to experiment with short styles. I'm just impatient for it to grow long enough to actually do anything with. Plus feel very nervous about actually going to a hairdressers. I've stopped wearing my wig now and abandoned hats/ scarves to hide. Only use hats to keep warm now. I'm amazed you've had 3 cuts... My hair is still very short. Getting energy levels back so ready to move on... Hence impatience. Hope you are doing well. Embrace the curls LOL. Take care.
Hi all. Finished chemo in July, now on six monthy Zometa infusions. Lost all shoulder length, straight brown (dyed) hair between chemo 2 and 3. Hair now growing - about 4cm of thick, grey/black, chemo curls. First hairdressers appointment next week. Everyone says to have pixie cut and keep colour but i think curls and grey make me look like my gran! Has anyone had their hair dyed since chemo. Don't want to do any damage.
