Hi
I was diagnosed straight to stage 4 metastatic breast cancer 2 years ago age 39.
For the last 2 years I've been on tablets but now started my first EC iv chemo.
I'm currently day 10, the first week I had slimy disgusting taste in my mouth and everything tastes disgusting, this week I've come down with a cough and cold which everyone in the house has!
I don't feel hungry just thirsty all the time but I try to snack little and often I just can't taste much , I don't know if it's the cold or if its the chemo, my temperature bowels etc all normal but anyone else had problems with appetite on EC? My next cycle is 8th September.
Thanks
Gosh Stage441 I has EC and I had forgotten that taste, bananas were my best friend but I also had a really dickie tum, toast and marmite was about the only thing I could taste, heinz tomoto and chicken soup was also good, won't last, how many Ec are you in for? I had 3. Love Ann
The biggest tip I can give you is for the painful mouth ulcers. I found none of the mouth washes helped and made me feel sick but I was given a tip to use 1/2 teaspoon of bicarbonate of soda dissolved in a little warm water and gargle with that, it was a miracle and cleared up the ulcers. I gargled with this solution before I ate food each day and the mouth ulcers didn't come back. I had a really rough time with EC I hope your treatment goes well. Keep your HODU nurses up to date with your side effects as they will do whatever they can to mitigate these. Also check the side effects of the tablets given to help with sickness and nausea as I was getting other problems as a result of some of the tablets for example stomach cramps and constipation. But everyone is different. I also kept a diary just bullet points each day to keep a track of my side effects. Gaviscon is your friend get some . Hope that helps xx
Thank you so much! I seem to have been ok first few days with mouth ulcers then felt rubbish since I'm hoping I feel OK before my next cycle.
I'm going to try bicarbonate and hopefully helps just wish I could taste.
I started to feel better the third week then a few days later I was due my next cycle. The taste thing is horrible I'm just drinking water even that tastes funny. Sorry cant give you tips on that. xx
It's horrible isn't it! I'm so worried incase I start losing too much weight
I lost a little bit of weight not too much, as long as you can try to eat something maybe just plain foods or soups or maybe even just dry crackers if you really feel sick. xx
I've just can't taste anything and don't really feel hungry not sure if it's because I've got a cold or because it's a chemo side effect . Luckily the one thing I haven't had yet is sickness but already dreading cycle 2 as feel rubbish at mo on day 10 xx
If you haven't been sick by now you should be ok, keeping weight on is a bit of a yoyo, you will start to feel better before your next treatment and then will eat properly and gain some weight back, you will be better prepared for your next dose, keep going, you can do this. Love Ann
