Hi all,
I am on my fourth packet of Tamoxifen, and each month it has been a different brand with different side effects, some I got on better with and some have been awful. It is the same pharmacy I always get my prescription in, but they are telling me they have no control over which brand that come in. They couldn't explain to me why this is or how I might get consistency in brand. Can anyone advise me on this? I am really struggling with the roller coaster of brands and their different side effects.
thanks in advance
Hi, I know exactly what you are talking about. I've read about various effects of different brands, but also held in mind we all may respond differently. I've been really sick on the recent brand so will now make sure the pharmacist doesn't dispence the same one again. When I spoke to pharmacist he said they do not log what brand they've been giving me and the only way they can be sure to get me a specific brand was to ask my Gp to state the brand preferred on the prescription. From now on I will log the brands. Hope this helps
I know there are difficulties getting many medications since brexit started. Could you try another pharmacy.
Hi
I have recently started on Letrazole but the same issue happens, ie different brands can have different side effects. The first packet I got, I actually stopped after only 11 days as it affected my joints, and particularly shoulders, so quickly.
So, my plan now is ...
1) I order repeat prescription on a different day than my other repeats. This means it's on it's own prescription script
2) I asked the pharmacy, where I usually have prescriptions dispensed, NOT to dispense the hormone-blocker until I go to them and have it dispensed - in case they don't have the brand I'm using
3) Then, if they don't have the brand I've been using, or want to try, I can take the prescription to an alternative pharmacy, asking what brands they have in stock (or phone round, of course) Once I've identified the pharmacy with the brand I want, I have them dispense it.
This means I don't have to ask the GP to specify the brand and I'me free to change brand any time I feel the need and can ensure I get the brand that suits me best.
I order my prescription requests online from the surgery, each month, and they are sent to my choice of pharmacy electronically. So, if my choice of pharmacy doesn't have the brand I want, then I ask for the prescription to be printed and given to me, to take elsewhere.
Even if you don't do yours on line/repeats, you will have a means of ordering your hormone-blocker, ie Tamoxifen, Anastrozole, Letrozole etc on it's own script, to take to your choice of pharmacy
Wishing you all the best
PS I have a list of the different brands so please message me if you aren't happy finding on internet search etc (that's where I got the list from ;) )
Thanks Israel, I have been doing a ring round. yesterday evening, but had been told I would need to bring in my prescription when I was ready for it, and it they would see what they could get then. No one seemed to be able to offer any kind of confidence of what brand they would when. One mentioned Brexit, but wasn't sure if that was the issue, she was just speculating.
Thanks ChocDrop for taking the time for such a detailed reply. And thanks for the suggestion it sounds like what I might have to do. I was hoping there was an easier way. I did manage to find a list of brands online. And thanks again.
