Hi I am awaiting a breast mri. Yesterday was advised I am stage 1 grade 2 hormone positive, still awaiting her.  Could not be given a proper sizing, but having an mri so can be sized properly and they can get a more detailed picture of my breast.  Advised its small by consultant on two mammograms and advised about 1cm, lump cannot be felt.  Just nervous at what mri will show and my final size. Any advice please

  • Thank you, they did offer lumpectomy or masectomy with reconstruction because I have a very small area of dcis on another part of my breast.  But he advised its small, like you said they would be looking at shrinking it first if was large, consultant mentioned nothing about chemo if I chose lumpectomy (unsure which I am choosing at the min) and I sure he would of don't u xx

Dcis is what they call pre cancer so yes, trust your doctors and follow what you feel is right in your heart for you.

  • My treatment plan, surgery either lumpectomy/masectomy with reconstruction, rads and medication.  I know its hormone positive, and awaiting her result. If I chose lumpectomy would need mri first for sizing.  Why else would chemotherapy be used before hand pls xx

If the tumour is too big to operate on safely or if they suspect its spread, I would presume. In early stages lumoectomy first is usual.

  • Hi Capazi, just waiting for results after surgery, can I ask how yr treatment is going pls xxx

  • All the diagnostic scans and then waiting for results really is the worst part!

I had MRI to size mine and they did advise me that they often find the MRI shows a bigger lump, which it did for me. This is not a reason to panic, it just means they are getting all the information required to give you the best possible treatment plan. For me, they also saw that it was on my chest wall and so they wanted to give me chemo to shrink it first. This was not completely unexpected because of where it was.

Mine was just over 2cm I think from ultrasound and MRI showed as over 3.5cm. This was still the same staging.

I know it is impossible, but try not to be too worried. They have found it, you know what you are dealing with, apart from HER, and that it is small. It's not going to change that much from MRI, but it will give them a much better picture for next steps and to plan your surgery.

    Good luck with it.

How did the surgery go? I am halfway through chemo and had round 3 last Thursday. Still struggling to get over it but it does get better before the next round. I am generally okay bit chemo is hard physically and emotionally.

What did they opt for in the end? Lumpectomy or mastectomy? Take it easy and listen to your body. Don't push to get moving and doing too fast

  • Hi, I had a theraputic mammoplasty with reduction done on the other side at the same time. 5 weeks post op and still no results hopefully results by the end of the and I will be approaching 6 weeks post op. What did your results show. How long after surgery did you start chemo.  Wishing you well in your treatment xxx

  • My lymph nodes showed clear on my ultrasound and mri xx
