Hi everyone
I have been taking sertraline for a few years now and they help enormously.
In February this year I was diagnosed with BC and had surgery and will be having radiotherapy on 5th May. I've been started on Tamoxifen too.
I've been reading about antidepressants increasing the risk of BC so now worried and don't know whether to come off then but I feel they work for me and I worry how I will be without them. On the other hand I don't want to increase the risk of BC.
Any advice from anyone?
As Grogg says stress is bad for us so you need to try and work out what is going to prove to be the least stressful for you.
I would talk to your medical team and see what their thoughts are on any risks from the antidepressants you are taking. It could be the risk is tiny or maybe it isn't a risk at all in their opinion. If it is a risk you could always try slowly coming off themto see how you feel and if you need to you could always start taking them again.
Definitely talk to your doctors first though before you make a decision and definitely before taking yourself off/reducing any meds you are taking as that I think should only be done under a doctor's supervision.
Hope you reach a decision you are comfortable with x
Hey! Stressy times! Please continue your medication until you speak to a doctor.
I have been taking propranolol and Sertraline since my diagnosis - I needed something to help me cope, and after basically breaking down with my doctor I was prescribed these drugs. I feel that they have helped me keep an ‘even keel’ throughout my diagnosis and treatment. I’m now 3 years post diagnosis and still take them....
It might be worth discussing this with a pharmaist, as they're usually pretty knowledgeable about interactions etc.
I'll be interested too, as I'm on long-term antidepressants, previously taken Tamoxifen / Anastrozole 9 yrs ago and now having treatment for reoccurance, about to start Letrozole.
For me, it will be down to quality of life, I have to say ;)
I will ask the pharmacist and see what they say and let you know.
Sorry you've had a reoccurrence and hope everything goes well for you x
