Hi group, I was just wondering if anyone has any product recommendation for the scalp?

I received my first chemo two weeks ago and hair is falling out thick and fast. I need to shave it as it’s becoming an inconvenience . I have no issue with the hair loss itself.
I am a bit baffled as to what I use to clean my scalp with though Slight smile  . It seems silly to be using shampoo. I tend to use natural shower gels with no harsh chemicals / organic things so was wondering if this would be ok for scalp also?
sorry to sound so silly Upside down

  • I still use shampoo as shampoos are designed to be safe on your scalp, also I use a shampoo I am used to as chemo makes your skin sensitive so don’t won’t to risk a reaction.

  • Hi my story on my profile feel free to read  if you wish

Firstly welcome to community secondly there is no such thing as a silly question on here except perhaps the one that isn't asked .

I used a shampoo ..nioxin which protects and looks after  follicles but a mild Paraben free is fine . What I found really useful for scalp dryness and itch was Aquaeous cream . Boots sell it but so do lots of others like H Bargains etc

Bit like slapping brylcream on lol but massaged into scalp then rinsed off with small dot of shampoo . Then small amount can be massaged in and left .

my chemo finished in Dec 2019 hair grew back in first lockdown bit of fuzz in March then needed haircut byJuly . Stil use above combination and coincidence or not have full head of thick hair needed cut every four week til this lockdown .( keeping it short ) but heading towards bob .

Just a word of advice regards shaving your decision but I chose to use a no 2 shave so didn't get prickly stubble and less danger of nicking scalp.

    good luck with treatment

Thank you Margaret! Very informative answer, I did a grade 2 as it would have been too much of a shock for the children to go to a Shaved straight away. Thank you Blush xxx

When I lost my hair I found using baby Johnson shampoo. Nice  & soft for the scalp.

That's what I also used to wash my wig aswel. After I finished chemo 1st time round and When my hair was growing back I carried on using the baby shampoo and I found that helpful for my hair to grow back, I know it sounds silly but that's what I thought anyway. X x good luck with treatment. Xx Heart eyes
