Hi

has anyone ever got a uti on chemo. Mine started 4 weeks ago after my last EC, it’s stings to pee and also it feels like someone is pushing on my bladder. I was taken to hospital 3 weeks ago with dehydration and a UTI and given 3 days of antibiotics but it still never went. Fast forward to Wednesday just gone when I went in for my paclitaxel & HP and I mentioned it still hurts they said I could have cystis and chemo may not happen, they done a wee sample and PH was 9 they said which was high and that they need to speak to my oncologist who said it was ok to go ahead.

but it is aching me I am so sore and don’t know what to do I got another course of antibiotics off my doctor yesterday for 3 days. Has anyone had this too?

also I wanted to ask I see people say speak to there BCN. I don’t have One of these when we was told i had breast cancer that was it I just waited for my oncologist however my friend had a nurse who she could call and they would check up on her. I don’t have anyone who I can ring to speak to about any of this?

hope you can help me

x

  • Hi

I’m currently on EC, 2 sessions so far, and was warned by the nurse and oncologist that the C part of the drug could cause cystitis like symptoms. I was told to drink at least 2 litres of water a day to try and avoid. This seems to be working so far. I also limit any other drinks, so just water and maybe two cups of tea.

Re: knowing who your nursing team contact is, I got mine when I was first diagnosed at the breast clinic. I am having chemo at home via private medical cover and use that nursing team for most of my contact, but I still have the nurse at the hospital who I have spoken to a couple of times.  Might be worth ringing the breast clinic and asking (demanding but in a nice way) for someone to talk to. I would also mention to your GP that you’re concerned about the support from the breast care team to see if they can do anything. I had a call with my GP last week which was just a general post diagnosis catch up and one of the first questions she asked me was whether I was happy that I had the right support in place from the hospital.

Hope you get it sorted and soon xx

Aww thank you I will definitely ring them on Monday and speak to them. All I have been drinking is water but to be honest we ain’t been told anything about drinking water or things to do with chemo.Pensive have chemo and they send me on my way. I just feel so sad and at a loose end because of my infection and it’s really hurting me. I need the pain to go away so I’m healthy enough for chemo on WednesPensiveCryCryCry

i was admitted to hospital on saturday with a UTI they gave me IV antibiotics but this pain still hasn't gone away its hurting to pee and i have like a pain in my stomach, i was discharged sunday night as they said be better at home as i could catch an infection or covid at the hospital. Is this common with chemo? I am meant to have my 2nd Paclitaxel tommorrow but i am going for my bloods today and i dont know whether to say to the nurses that i am feeling rough still i am dont know what to do.

i have been vommitting every time i eat and i feel like i cant cope anymore as i feel so exhausted, i am hungry but cant stomach food and i cant get myself out of bed.

  • So sorry to hear this . It definitely does not sound right - it might be a side effect but their must be a better way to manage it. Please stress how bad you’re feeling when you go and see the nurse later today. And don’t leave until someone listens to you. I hope you get it sorted ASAP xx

  • Hey, how did you get on today? Hope there was some progress? x

They done a blood test and a pee sample they said I haven’t got a water infection. They said that my bloods was fine and that they think I have irritable bladder syndrome from the chemo. It’s the pain that’s killing me, they said I can have chemo tommorrow but will have a pee sample when in arrive just to check.

I just want answers to say it will go away soon I still have 10 weeks of paclitaxel to go and don’t want to continue to vomit and hAve pain downstairs x

  • But no advice on anything that might help? That’s not so good. Ask if they can do anything with your anti sickness meds (for vomiting) when you go for chemo tomorrow. And carry on telling them about your pain.

    Also, worth looking through the monthly chemo thread to see if any others have more advice or experience to offer;

Really hope things get better for you really soon x

So back at the hospital for my chemo they make me do a pee sample. guess what?? I have a severe UTI! They was gonna cancel my chemo for today I’ve had doctors down and consultants they have put me on a number of antibiotics and said it should die down now and that my chemo could go ahead.

I lost another 6lb this week so they have told me I have to eat more but it’s making me sick to eat.
