Hi,
I have now been a year in remission and I having been making major changes to my diet since my diagonisis but I am now looking at going one step further and just eating a plant based diet.
Has anyone done this? I am interested to hear how you have got on and whether you have the backing of your oncologist to follow this type of diet.
Thanks,
Titiushki
I sometimes wonder about stress being a factor with it's cortisol spikes, flight or flight mode and many of us too much sweet and fatty food and alcohol which can cause weight gain.. I also find it quite funny that a lot of us on this forum are either from the field of education and the NHS. Both stressful, underfunded and overstretched caring professions!! I certainly slowly gained weight since working in a school these last five years, mostly from snacking to keep up energy levels.
Hi ArgyMargy,
I definitely think my cancer was caused by stress. I was only 44 when I was diagonosed and had been in the most stressful job you can imagine for 5 and a half years. My life basically saw me speed walking to work, spending my entire working day stressed and running from meeting to meeting. Lunch was spent at the gym, I would eat in 2 minutes at my desk, carry on working and I would speed walk home. One girl in the office told me once she has muscle ache after walking with me. I ate really well, was slim, didnt smoke or drink much, exercised 4-5 a week, never took the lift only the stairs. As one of my friends told me "you can't have cancer, you are the healthiest person I know"... I replied to her well apart from the cancer
I ended up jacking it in and decided to take a year off but ended up getting a new job that was working from home so I couldnt say no. 6 months later I was diagonosed. Now my life is stress free thank god....
Hi,
I hope I have got the right thread. I'm just chipping in about eating soya milk. I was ER+ and researched if drinking soya milk could harm me anyway the research is that actually the plant estrogen's are beneficial in preventing recurrence.
Obviously don't take my word for it and do look up the facts for yourself. Anyway here is the link....
Here's an article on MSN today which I think is interesting about the benefits of a plant based diet.
Hi Lesley,
Thanks so much for sending this. So I have now been a fully fledged vegan for over a week now and I have to say Im absolutely loving it. The food is amazing, my digestion is better than ever and I feel absolutely great. It doesn't feel like a chore, it feels like an absolute gift to be nourishing my body with all this amazing food. My husband and son are also eating what I do in the evening and I can just feel the goodness pouring into me.
Im treating myself to dark chocolate everyday and Im still enjoying a couple of glasses of wine at the weekend with some crisps. It feels normal! Im having oat milk with my tea and if Im out for a coffee Im having soy or oat milk.

If you cutting out animal products and still enjoying a tipple this site can tell you which drinks are vegan http://www.barnivore.com Sainsbury’s own brand wine usually has vegan written on bottle and I believe M&S wines are vegan. Who knew there were animal products in alcohol.
M&S do a nice plant based range. Cauliflower in batter particularly nice. I also buy their stir fry meal deal with different tofu options , pea noodles, veg and sauce for £6 and feeds two!
I went to Queen in in Cwmbran last weekend. A fully vegan pub. Great food.
