I'm visiting my daughter in Scotland for 2 days and my hair is so thin now that I'm thinking I should wear a wig when I meet her uni. flatmates etc. I can put it on, but it tends to ride up a bit at the back. How can I secure it so that it stays put and doesn't make my head look odd?? Also, it is likely to be windy so I'll need it not to fly off lol. Help! x
Hi there,
Mine had a Velcro at the back which would tightened it up. There are headbands on Amazon you can buy as well.
I live by the sea and walked in all weathers as my chemo started in January. It got windy quite a-bit but mine stayed put.

Hi Londonmumof2
mine also has a hook and eye fastener but can still creep a bit . I was told correct position is four finger width from brow to hairline .
I also wear a wig skull cap under it to stop slip .

I have the velcro adjustment, and the net wig cap but it just shoots up about an inch within seconds. I've tried clips but they pull my remaining hair and it climbs at the front instead. I even tried a hairband over it to flatten the top (it makes me look like I'm wearing a wig hat, but is 1 inch above my net at the back of the neck and the sides.. It fits when first on though? I have 3 wigs now and they all do the same. Also have people had them thinned, as mine are quite thick...80's style thick! . Just getting to the stage where I'd like to wear one of them so maybe I need to see a hairdresser as Raoul's Wigmakers (oldest wig shop in London and on TV and the one the London hospitals use) thought the fit was fine??
God knows what I'll do when I go back to work! I've fine hair starting to grow which is an inch or so in places already, but I'm starting to look a bit odd with the long wispy brown hair and short wispy white hair at the front and short wispy brown further back. I really need it cut off, but the long bits cover my ears, give me a fringe and are (not quite) passible under a bamboo scarf....
Hi, I used a Hair Grip band which I bought from the wig shop. You wear under the wig like a headband and it always felt very secure. The wigs didn’t move even on a windy day! All the best xx
Hi Karen, is it one of those velvet ones, or what was it made of? I'm wearing a hair baby on top with the one Gemma gave me (which looks ok and fits ok, but I've had to step down as it's hot, especially after little hair and a bamboo scarf! I can see why people wear beanies!!
Hi Londonmumof2 , it was a velvet one. Called The Hair Grip. I had 3 wigs, different styles and makes and it worked fine with them all. Got my own hair back now. Grew back with tight curls but I’ve kept having it trimmed and now growing straight. I finished my chemo last December and my hair started sprouting again around February.
Lots of love xx
Thanks Karen, I'll order one up today. X
I saw a video online, could have been breastcancernow.org videos, where a therapist was showing a lady how to cut off the top of nylon stockings and use that in her head (I kid you not!!)before putting in her wig...her hair was just beginning to grow back. Will try to find link!
Hi Londonmumof2
I've just ditched the wig as my hair is finally coming back My wig stayed on fine - I didin't try it in very strong wind.
The only other thing you could try is wig tape. I got some because my hairdresser was trying to thin it out and it kept moving.
You can get it on Amazon.
Have a lovely time in Scotland.
