Hello,
What a lovely friend you are.....and I'm sure whatever gift you give your friend will give her a chance to feel normal again.
However, at my clinic a beautician came to see me during my first chemo session. I followed several of her recommendations. The most important may have saved my nails. It might have been coincidence but they never went black or fell off. She told me to use Evo nail twice a day for 7 days then remove it with an acetone free remover on the 8th day. Then start again. I did that every day until I had finished both chemo and radiotherapy.About 9 months. I did my toe nails too and my podologue was really impressed with them. Perhaps you could treat her to these items as they are not inexpensive? The beautician also recommended I rub argan oil into my head after I lost my hair. I didn't have a wig but used bamboo turbans I bought online and bought inexpensive head bands from shops like Claire's Accessories to match my clothes to decorate them with. If your friend is losing her hair, that might be another idea.
All shampoos and shower gels should be paraben free. Creams and soaps are best scent free. Deodorant aluminum free. I don't know if it helps but three years on my cancer is still gone and I feel if it came back and I had ignored the advice, I would never know. I still buy these toiletries.
Happy Shopping.....
Love Karen
Hi Vicki,
How thoughtful, what a lovely thing to do.
I have found a lip balm invaluable as my lips are dry and the cold weather hasn’t helped.
The ‘Simple’ range of products for hair care or anything very gentle, baby shampoo etc. Aveeno it very popular. Creams like E45.
Bed socks, ginger biscuits, boiled seeets, a decent water bottle, magazines, puzzle books etc, neck pillow, notepad, nail and hand moisturiser I have a coconut one it’s 90% natural , it’s fab.
I hope that helps
Best wishes Tina x
Lovely that you have thought to ask....what a fabulous friend! Some ideas...
Sugar free sweets - Aldi do a good selection
A little tube of hand cream
Green tea - I found I went off coffee (which I loved! )
anything for a nice bath....my muscles aches during chemo and baths really helped
Maybe a little token...something your friend can take with her to remind her of your friendship
i wish her the very best ....xx
Dear Karen
many thanks for this, so much more helpful than me going into Superdrug and guessing at what will be a good present.
So glad to hear you are now cancer free. Hope you’re loving each day! Life is precious.
Thanks for taking the time to write

Time goes on, but problems remain, folks. My friend is having his chemo how too, so I want to make this New Year really special for him. I know he loves sweets too much, more than any person I know. What should I get him?
Somehow this thread has managed to gather the best people in the world. Guys, I wish I had friends like you!! Actually, I have a friend who loves sweets as your friend does. Last year, I got him a basket with sweets on https://www.jetgiftbaskets.com/. He liked it so much. Actually, I didn’t know what he loved more: cookies or chocolates, so I got him them all. It always works when you don’t know what to get a person to surprise him/her. So, I hope my advice will help you. Keep us updated and let us know how your friend reacted! Happy New Year, folks!
