It seems I'm a patient now!

But not a very patient one!

I've at least got a diagnosis, it's invasive ductal cancer grade 2, but still small, oestrogen receptive but looks as if I might get away with the lymph nodes....and maybe not too much treatment afterwards?

Complex plan, but to begin with, a sentinel node (plus another one or so) removal as day surgery, (a nuclear medicine visit first to get 'the jab' for them to trace) then a gap while that,  plus the HER result come back, then because of my previous surgeries for cysts and the fact one resulted in a massive haematoma, therefore scar tissue, I will have a complete mastectomy with an implant. That will be immediately after Easter.

By finding out as much as possible beforehand, the surgeon hopes to prevent too many operations. Obviously I will then need Tamoxifen or similar, so will appreciate helpful advice about that.

But I'd be interested on anyone's 'take' on her plan. I feel reassured that she took time with me, and the BC nurse afterwards spent a good while too.

  • Hi Jmp,

It’s Bexhill, on the coast between Hastings and Eastbourne, no fantastic beaches but a great prom, 2 miles long, which suits hubs’ wheelchair with power wheels, and the flat we borrow is ground floor with a wet room, perfect!

The locals say ‘Dover for the continent, Bexhill for the incontinent’ as there are loads of retirement sheltered flats and care homes!

Feel really rested and ready for home soon

  • Had an email from the breast cancer complaints people claiming they didn't receive two bits of the information I already sent them, plus the equivalent of my inside leg messurements!

One problem of course is that I had my old NHS number drilled into me as a child and a young person and they've all been changed and I'm not at home to look for the up to date one! So I duly emailed the old, well known one! Ha, well I will no doubt get another email soon.....

Been revisiting the bakery (quite a trek) for warm sausage rolls for lunch and then the ice cream shop for a final taste on our last complete day here. I took a couple of pics of the ice creams but some await refilling, will post. I had my all time favourite, raspberry sorbet topped with dark chocolate. Not cheap but stunning flavours!

  • Home, phew, it was ok but a long delay on the M25, not sure why....

Just in time to drop everything in, grab music and off to rehearsal, which was for us soloists, quite a long one.

Home for late lunch (4pm!) and then a chippy dinner, after doing 2 loads of washing! More still to do tomorrow....

    Heck!

And I’m shattered, but then I was up very early!

Got a change of follow up appointment, two days earlier. Maybe my surgeon is going on holiday? But it fits in better as I’ve a ‘look good feel better’ session that afternoon anyway, will be able to feel ok about staying however long it takes, rather than rushing off! I’m looking forward to it, didn’t think I’d be eligible as I’m not having chemo, but they said oh yes!

Hi  &   I’m doing a Look Good Feel Great session next Tuesday if not too tired ( been trying to attend one since Feb but too knackered). Now my chemos been reduced fingers crossed. :-)

  • Hi Judith,

I hope you manage it and enjoy it!

I’m hoping to learn some tricks about concealers! (Have always had dark circles under my eyes - strictly speaking they are semi-circles of course!)

  • Jmp, I hope that your chemo is being reduced because you are doing well, not because of side effects. Sorry if I have missed your updates.

Hope you feel well enough to go to your session. Xxx

Onwards and flatwards (don't do hills) and keep walking if you can!
