It seems I'm a patient now!

But not a very patient one!

I've at least got a diagnosis, it's invasive ductal cancer grade 2, but still small, oestrogen receptive but looks as if I might get away with the lymph nodes....and maybe not too much treatment afterwards?

Complex plan, but to begin with, a sentinel node (plus another one or so) removal as day surgery, (a nuclear medicine visit first to get 'the jab' for them to trace) then a gap while that,  plus the HER result come back, then because of my previous surgeries for cysts and the fact one resulted in a massive haematoma, therefore scar tissue, I will have a complete mastectomy with an implant. That will be immediately after Easter.

By finding out as much as possible beforehand, the surgeon hopes to prevent too many operations. Obviously I will then need Tamoxifen or similar, so will appreciate helpful advice about that.

But I'd be interested on anyone's 'take' on her plan. I feel reassured that she took time with me, and the BC nurse afterwards spent a good while too.

  • Cheers! I had a single malt. (Glenmorangie)

Felt very weepy tonight, it’s getting close to a year since hubs died and it hit me a bit watching the Repair Shop (which we both loved from the moment it began) and it was a repeat….

  • Hi , hope you managed to ‘toast’ dear mr moomy with your glass of fine malt whiskey. Thinking of you as the anniversary of his death approaches, all these firsts are painful. No easy way round the pain, sending a big virtual hug your way. HFxxxx

  • Bless you all, dear friends, the actual day is Sunday. But yes I did toast him (he loved the non-peaty single malts, especially Glengoyne.
but Glenmorangie was a close second.

And now we have another resigned prime minister! I was at choir singing ‘I was glad ‘ by Purcell, and someone piped up from the back (one of the basses) and we could hardly contain ourselves when we started it again! Joy

  • Daughter has safely landed in New York with 5 of her very excited Trinity students, they are swapping tutors, from her to Joe Alessi and she is taking on his students for a week at the Julliard. Wonderful opportunity for them. Joe Alessi was one of her own ‘greats’ when a bit younger and it’s so good to know they are now good friends. So proud!

Watching ‘all creatures’ which I really enjoy. And the next series has been commissioned, yay!

  • Had a text from my GP, I still have osteopenia (3 years ago it was osteoporosis) so they still want me to take Alendronic acid for a further 3 years, then think about a break.

Hey ho. I had been hoping to stop that weekly tablet, but at least it’s only a further 3 years? I guess it shows that tamoxifen causes less bone damage than Letrozole.

  • Hi Moomy, sorry about the alendronic tab. My husband used to have to take them. Is that the one where you have to stay standing for half an hour after taking it? My shoulders are getting worse from the letrozole. I am in so much pain.

I have been working this week. Day off today. Uncle Kevin's funeral was yesterday. I have never been to an internment before and it was very cold and wet standing beside the grave!

I shall try to catch up on all the posts I have missed this week.

  • Hi , yes, you shouldn’t lie down for half an hour after taking it, but I don’t stay standing up, I use that time to sit and write my journal!

so sorry about the interment, yes it really can be bleak standing by a grace. I hope it went ok otherwise?

yes a pity but I’m not sure if it’s an improvement in the previous scan, as yet I don’t have the details. I hope they will get posted to me but I might have to go and ask for a copy from the GP. (Not going to phone them as I’ve got a life, haha!)

I am going to continue to take my extra supplements of multi-vits and minerals, and continue taking good care not to fall!
