It seems I'm a patient now!

But not a very patient one!

I've at least got a diagnosis, it's invasive ductal cancer grade 2, but still small, oestrogen receptive but looks as if I might get away with the lymph nodes....and maybe not too much treatment afterwards?

Complex plan, but to begin with, a sentinel node (plus another one or so) removal as day surgery, (a nuclear medicine visit first to get 'the jab' for them to trace) then a gap while that,  plus the HER result come back, then because of my previous surgeries for cysts and the fact one resulted in a massive haematoma, therefore scar tissue, I will have a complete mastectomy with an implant. That will be immediately after Easter.

By finding out as much as possible beforehand, the surgeon hopes to prevent too many operations. Obviously I will then need Tamoxifen or similar, so will appreciate helpful advice about that.

But I'd be interested on anyone's 'take' on her plan. I feel reassured that she took time with me, and the BC nurse afterwards spent a good while too.

  • Hope it’s quicker than that, ! Waiting is always the pits….

  • I had my 2nd follow up mammogram on 11th May. The consultant said he would write in two weeks with the result. After six anxious weeks I phoned the BC nurses. They checked my result online and assured me all was fine and said I should still receive a letter. I am still waiting !!
Sorry I missed you when we visited The National Museum of Computing Moomy. We were there on 26th May when you were on holiday. My OH has had a career in computers and so chose this visit for his 70th. Even with his experience he found it all very interesting and was impressed by the knowledge of the guys who did the guided tour. I am not too technical but I quite enjoyed it and learned something !!! I did see The Bombe and thought of you working on it . Before our visit we were a bit confused as to the difference between Bletchley which we visited about ten years ago and the Computer museum as it’s not too clear on the website. OH was so impressed that he said he would volunteer to be a guide if we only lived closer. We are in Scotland !

  • Gosh 6 weeks and no results, then only over the phone! Do they not understand the emotional turmoil we go through when waiting, waiting?

Talking of Bletchley my father worked at Rothamsted Experimental Station and I remember when we would fetch him at the end of the day, he would usually be found in the computer room. The room was one huge computer from wall to ceiling

  • Oh what a pity I never met you, ! Still, I hope you enjoyed your visit and had a good demo of Enigma and the Bombe?!

Hope nobody has to wait too long for mammo results…..

  • I shall be thinking of you on Monday, Jayhay.

I had my first complimentary therapy session at the local hospice today. I had a short reiki session which was bliss. I felt so chilled. Then came out to find someone had parked in a non parking space and blocked my car in. I undid all the chilledness manouvering the car out lol!

My father was one of the scientists responsible for the RothC soil model which looks at the carbon in the soil. He also helped develop a hardier strain of wheat for growth in arid countries such as Africa. As a child I loved going to find him either in his lab or in the computer room.

  • Loved the reiki and memories, but hated the parking problems,

I too will be thinking of you on Monday,  and hoping for good news. Always a worry when you see your specialist!

I’ve had a really lazy day today, lots of Downton dvd watching!

  • Oh I love Downton. The second film was simply stunning. I can't believe they won't be making any more. .My sister lives in Highclere where the programme was filmed. I think I may have said on this thread before that we went round Highclere Castle and it is just so beautiful. The Tutankhamun exhibits are sensational.

  • Ooooh, I’ve got the second film on pre-order, looking forward to it! I have a friend who used to steward at Highclere, she loved it.

  • A reasonably easy day (a couple of days back I bashed a little toe and in spite of icing it it’s still black and blue and still very tender)

Started cutting back this years fruiting canes, leaving next years to continue growing. Lots to do still
