So in   5 days time I have the operation to remove the tumour - randomly known as Ian.

Why in the last few days have I become incredibly tired and emotional ??
Did anyone else feel the same?

Programme on bbc2 just now for those not squeamish, about surgery and one patient they are following is a lady having a double mx and immediate recon with diep flap.

    Interesting stuff.

  • Good evening gang,

Bigguy glad you are feeling well, prob doesnt seem like it to you but nearly 3 weeks since your first chemo seems to have gone quickly. Did the diziness get better in the end? Sounds like a busy week ahead.... we should all be given tokens for each hospital visit and collect rewards.

Leolady - been thinking of you all day. You did absolutely right to give the dr a hard time. What planet was he on? Long story short but there was a big cock up with my dad few yrs back an a less than thorough job by a junior dr result in dad getting sepsis and being critically ill (we had the next 24 hrs are crucial talk). Thankfully he pulled through and was ok but we wrote to the consultant expressing concern we had only ever seen his understudies and would welcome a meeting with him. We turned up to that meeting, kept waiting 90 mins, walked in and there was a spotty youth sitting there. My mum kicked off and said "I demand to see consultant" he replied "yes thats me, I look young for my age!" Oops!!

Jackie- hope you are feeling brighter this evening. Like Bigguy says try and switch off whenever you can until Monday. Hope you get a good nights sleep.

    Jolly- thinking of you tomorrow.

Had a good evening with Brownies, it really one if the few times in the week when I forget about everything for 90 mins. Wound looking bit red without dressing on but maybe just cos clothes being touching it and was extremely hot at Brownies. See what District Nurse says in morning, feel fine in myself so hopefully no infection...trying to avoid going in a hospital or Drs building at all until 19th.

Lots of love to everyone, you ladies are amazing and couldn't be without you.

    xx

    Hya Jacks77,

Sounds like you’ve got quite a week of it. At least you’ll be busy eh????

I tried to message but it’s almost impossible on my phone as cursor isn’t next to typing. Probs my phone :-(

Top tips....1) try not to worry. I know it’s easier said than done but any side effects you might get are temporary and improve day by day.

    2) take someone with you, there can be waiting around. Also, you might not feel like driving home.

    3) lemon & ginger teabags

    4) fresh ginger, fresh lemon & honey in hot water

    5) take pen to write on drugs boxes

    6) my unit recommend ice lollies to suck for one part of infusion

    7)Ginger biscuits

8)be prepared for taste buds to change a bit.

I think that’s it!! Please feel free to ask anything anytime xx

  • Hi LL

Hope you’re feeling just a little bit calmer this evening.

I now understand the bits I asked you about, thankyou, I was getting a bit confused.

You have every right to ask for the pure facts on your histology. I can’t remember if you were ER+ etc etc? Herceptin is given if you’re HER2 - as far as I’m aware so I’m not getting that in my lovely cocktail.

A big plus that your girls won’t share with you.

I think hearing that you need a third operation tipped the balance for me, hence more tears.

Yes I know that none of us have met but there’s such a strong bond on this group and I feel that it’s so much more than an online chat, it means something to me and as I’ve said before all of you ladies help me through my day.

Please let the sleep fairy visit you all tonight and you have the sweetest of dreams xxxxx

Well lovely lady see where you  get your feisty personality from. Your dear mother

I did laugh at that one.

Saw you were posting elsewhere so hope your aches and pains are eased

Think 2 glasses of vino collpaso, no sleep last night and today's punch in the solar plexus could mean 1 of 2 things. SLEEEEEp or more posting

    Leo hic not so lady

  • Hi Bigguy

Yup like you this week mine will be full on next week.

I will try to relax and not overthink things too much before next week.

My OH is going to take every chemo day off so that he can take me, I’m pleased with that because he has a calming influence on me.

I haven’t drunk tea for 38 years (pregnancy did that to me lol) so I’m not sure if I could start again. I may buy a small box of what you suggest and give it a try.

I’ve just ordered some Manuka Honey, the reviews are really good and I have lemons so I will put the fresh ginger on my list, sounds yummy.

Not sure about the ice lollies, where do you get them in a hospital, maybe the league of friends shop, I will check.

Ginger biscuits added to the list.

I’ve heard that the taste thing happens to most ladies, well it might put me off food so a few pounds weight loss might be coming my way.

Thank you so much for your help, I really appreciate it.

Oh one last thing, I am going to buy a thermometer, looked on Boots and the reviews for most of them are pretty poor, any suggestions?

    Thanks again xxxxxxx

    Jacks

think we posting at the same time

Think I may now be feeling more Lindsay

I got MUMPs when second daughter was 5 months old. I hate the smell of tea.  I'd had mumps as a 7 yr old. Love honey and drink fruit infusion teas, 2 cups of coffee only each day.

Think to get a good thermometer you may need to pay a silly amount - according to youngest nursey daughter. Like the ear ones in hospital for the greatest accuracy. Or do what your mam did . Hand on forehead and yes go to school

Surely a cold bag with ice blocks and ice lollies ( gawd I HATE lollies) could be an answer

Well done OH for stepping up. Mine was such a restraining hand today or else I could be in  police custody. I look good in grey

Honey, lemon and ginger ace drink. Make a hot flask that can go any where. Plus cold is lubberly too

Well I said I'd sleep but you rotters keep posting

    Frogs need sleep too

    Take care

    Another attempt to sleeeeeep

Jacks77, can’t believe I forgot thermometer!! My bad!! Our nurses recommend spending around £5 from supermarket....I did but it didn’t work. I bought a Braun one from Tesco for £15 and it’s fine. Takes a few seconds under the tongue. We’re supposed to do it every day....I do....obvs!!!! I did when I felt unwell anyways!!

I don’t usually like tea bags that aren’t tea but I can’t face it at the moment at all. I’ve gone from drinking builders’ tea and mocha coffee to strong black coffee & ginger & lemon tea. Xx
