I have just been to the Pharmacy in my village to collect my prescription  for Letrozole.  On my prescription it says Actavis brand please.
I pick up the prescription to find it is NOT Actavis.  I say very politely, that I can't accept that and as I have been taking this since January and it is  a village pharmacy where they know all their patients, please can they order the Actavis.  The Pharmacist says, no difference in any make and although they try to get what we ask for,  there is no obligation on them to get the BRAND that I THINK makes a difference!  I explain that although I haven't tried that particular brand, the other two brands I have tried have turned me into a melting, stiff 80 year old.  I thought , if I injected some humour into it he might be a little more sympathetic.  Absolutely not.  He said very condescendingly that he had a degree in pharmacology, not me, and although different brands used different fillers there were no clinical trials that proved my point, therefore it was my PERCEPTION of what happened with other brands, and had I heard of the placebo effect? Ugh!!
I was made to feel about 1/2 inch high in front of a shop full of people that I know. Â He then said he would order them for tomorrow as a favour. Â I really like to support our village shops but guess who will be going to a different pharmacy from now on?
I just feel So angry and upset that he can talk to me like this.
I wish I could name and shame........

Hi everyone,
when I knew I was going to be on Letrozole I did my research on the threads on here!
i realised quickly that Femara was the original but expensive, but also that the same company made a generic which has disappeared, and began looking at other generics. Accord seemed to gradually gain more ‘ticks’ in my spread sheet positives, and when I got my first prescription it was indeed that brand of generic I got.
I’ve talked to my pharmacy (a small town Boots) and the lady agreed with me that differing manufacturers use differing fillers and colours, so if one suits their patient they will try to ensure I get it each time. She however is only part time and when she’s not around I got Cipla made up, which I promptly refused. Fortunately I’d opened before I left!
I've since had those typical pharmacist arguments and asked my GP to add ‘please supply Accord brand’ as I had said if I don’t get it I will cost the NHS dearly by demanding Femara.
So far, so good.....
I've also posted a query on here to the Specialist Nurse and had the sanitised reply. But my argument is that Macmillan really COULD make a difference if only they collated bad side effects and made a statement to the pharmaceutical companies supplying us. After all, we are all stuck with this drug for a number of years....But will they?
Hugs to you all xxx

Thank because it's still very relevant
Oh no you poor thing. How ignorant. I had the same from Boots Chemist. Reduced me to tears in the shop. Told them to Google it and that it was well known. I complained to their HQ and thereafter had no problems. However prior to that they would regularly try to fob me off. You are not alone and it would be progress if some real research was done into this. Different brands seem to suit different people.
