.

  • Wouldn’t let me edit, it was a belated celebration after Tai Chi.

Onwards and flatwards (don't do hills) and keep walking if you can!

  • It’s so difficult when they are in education   George was lucky mum pushed for diagnosis when she recognised symptoms . George was 5 when on being sent to sit on own in corridor for “misbehaviour “. He asked his mum if he could do it again as he got more work done without others making noises . Mum worked in school asTA so could monitor hIs behaviour .

It was mainly a few senior schoolteachers who didn’t get the behaviour or directness required and given by someone who doesn’t see grey only black and white . He was constantly in detention .
He has always known he was different but has been brought up to accept his differences and that it’s others who have problems with it . His favourite saying used to be my brain is wired differently not the wrong way just different .
Mum is now mental health leader in same school .

As I said he bought his home with fiancé at 23yr  he is now 25 yr works 3days a week in coffee shop . Also has his own car photo website and organises Classic car shows ( hundreds of cars on display ) .
Like your grandson is finding being high functioning can cause problems in how others perceive and treat you . If he is able to then let him surround himself with understanding friends. George had friends from primary who were used to him and had Asperger’s / autism explained to them so we’re more than ready to defend .
hope he gets help soon .

  • Hi Helen,

Normally extra hours worked are just paid or dependent upon the company, would be at a higher rate. They wouldn't usually accrue holiday days. I can ask my OH as he checks salaries for staff as head of finance.

  • Oh you poor thing but good to hear the pain is settling anyway. Are you on any hormone treatments?  Just wondering as my daughter got lots of kidney infections when she was going through puberty but they stopped abruptly once she was through that stage and had her first child. It def seemed to be hormone related with her.

  • It sounds like George is doing brilliantly. So lovely he has a good core of understanding friends. School used to tell me my son was really popular but he never really made any close friends until college and he only has the one really now.  But he is happy in his own company  most of the time. He gets obsessed by wanting something and once he has got it moves on to the next obsession. But he is a lovely, caring lad albeit I think he has only hugged me three times in his almost 22 years!! But we have great chats now.

  • Well past hormone related lol  and no more treatment so hope fully if it was related   To bisphosonate treatment for bones ( can’t be given to renal patient as exits thru kidney )  as infection only started after I started said treatment only occurring every 6 months around infusion it will now not recur

Sounds like your son is coping well and has developed empathy which is such a plus . George’s obsession is obviously classic cars . He chose to go to an animal management college and really enjoyed that but does have dyspraxia so muscular problems prevent standing for long periods .
I think humour can help a lot when dealing with some of the situations his directness can cause . He has learnt that we laugh with him not at him .

  • You lovely ladies are doing wonders with and for your autistic/Asperger’s offspring! It’s certainly a challenge.

      , did your post reappear?

I’ve been trying to wire in new hifi, got internet radio working ok, will need to check CD player. I’ve only wired in one set of speakers so far, need to search for the other ends of speaker cable and plug in, and also to sort out the record deck.

  •    I'm no expert on employment law but as an accountant in local authority often involved in employment rules due to financial impact.   You are entitled to holiday average pay.  It's a legal requirement. I'd contact ACAS if you not in union.  Your employer should know their holiday average pay obligation.

I can't remember when it first intro but sometime after 2011 when I changed job,  So council had a lot of staff on say 15 hours a week but working 20 regularly.  There was a drive to properly establish staff contacted hours as more cost effective, easier to budget etc. Didn't hear of any issue with staff refusing the increase in contacted hours but often we had a holiday average pay on our ledgers each month as sickness cover still necessitated additional hours which automatically attracted holiday average pay.   Automated payroll system programmed to do but I believe citizen advice explains principal.

&   I vaguely recall my daughter talking about rubber band snapping to help with her intrusive thoughts for her OCD.  I need to speak to her but im sure she said it's not a good idea as you then associate pain with intrusive thought, increase fear or even if you feel it's not working move onto seeking  more intense pain eg self harming.   My daughter, now 27, suspects she a bit more advanced on spectrum than the average person.  Females are far more adept at masking .  I queried it when she was a child.  My sister described her as having selective shyness, her nursery and reception teacher told me she found it frustrating she often cried when she spoke to her when she had no reason to cry.  My daughter was very advanced in crawling, walking, talking and reading but her handwriting appalling .  She refused to wear wool type jumpers or socks with strings inside as she told me before age 2.  She still cuts labels out of all items of clothing that touch her body.  From starting on solid food she sorted out food in her mouth to eject the lumps, she has issues with hearing people eating.  She says now she completely masked her OCD in secondary school and is now working with new therapist to just accept her intrusive thoughts and uncertainty and sit with feeling uncomfortable.

  • Thank you  that is what I meant average holiday pay. I always work more than contract hours and so do most people. Because its staffed exactly not taking into consideration annual.leave and sickness.
