Hi there,

A bit scary posting for the first time here, but not half as scary as being diagnosed with breast cancer. I have had a bit of a rough time recovering from the operation to remove the tumor and lymph nodes with a wound that just wouldn't heal and now face my first episode of EC chemo starting at the beginning of September ( providing I am all healed by then) I would really appreciate any helpful tips on how to deal with my next step on this scary, confusing journey.  Any help would be much appreciated.

Many thanks.

  • Hi Hails7

Hope you are ok after your first EC. Keep taking all the meds and drink plenty of water.
I had my op before chemo as it was only after the biopsy they found my tumour was triple negative and wouldn’t respond to hormone tabs.
My first EC was scary because I don’t know what to expect and it was a shock for my body. Just lots of different side effects from feeling dizzy and tired to aches and of course vacillating between diarrhoea and constipation. Overall it could have been much worse and keeping cosy with a hot water bottle and warm socks really helped. Also just eat what tastes ok. I found ginger sweets really helped at first.
When I couldn’t read because my eyes and head were sore I listened to loads of radio plays and audio books- helped the hours pass.
it’s a long journey but you’ll get through and memories fade. Remember your body is going through a huge change so be gentle and accepting. It will pass.
Good luck on the way and I hope you don’t suffer too much with side effects xxx Hugging

  • Thank you for keeping this thread going I'm about to start EC on 18th Feb 2025. I'm triple negative, I've been through the 12 weeks of carbolplatin & paclitaxel. I made it to 6 taxol out of 12 and 4 carboplatin out of 4. It's had very positive results, I am however nervous about EC I've had so many side effects on these chemo drugs and the worst for me is the foggy head from carbolplatin. I'm hoping EC isn't the same but I have only 4 rounds of it so I know I can get through it then for me it's surgery & radiotherapy.

It's not what you expect the year of your 40th but I hope this helps others searching too.

I've found the cold cap fine if you drink a hot tea I have jasmine and take paracetamol it settles after 10 minutes and so far my hair is still here. It's thinned but no one would know and it was probably at the start, my biggest worry, how I would look to my little boy. I thankfully haven't had that worry come to fruition. I've used the new gloves & feet machines (they look like flippers I felt like something from star trek!) I didn't use them every time I think they might have helped a little but my neuropathy is the reason we couldn't do all 12 treatments, I was dropping things, pins & needles etc I'm an artist too. It's really worth trying everything you can to ease symptoms. Fingers crossed EC isn't too bad.

I really loved the comment about those champagne bottles, I hope I can have a glass of red again some day & know it won't bring this back. Good luck to you all xx
