Hi to anyone out there, my wife is 47, she has a diagnosis of Anaplastic Astrocytoma, she had debulking (80%) just finished radiotherapy (8 weeks ago) still exhausted, now keeps falling over, I have today applied for a PIP, is there any other benefits anyone knows which I / we can claim as it all seems so very complicated :-( we have been told that it is not curable and that it will kill her, and the best we can hope for is a year or 2.

  • Hi and I'm sorry you find yourself in this situation. Your wife should be able to claim PIP with the special DS1500 form. Ask your GP  or the specialist nurse. She should also be able to claim ESA.  Also you should be entitled to claim Carer Allowance.

My daughter who is the same age as your wife was diagnosed 4yrs ago with the same type of tumour. She had craniotomy followed by radiotherapy then pcv chemo managed 4 rounds. Her mobility is poor but she is doing well. She got full pip but was turned down first time and had to appeal. She finished work on medical retirement. Her prognosis wasn’t good but she is still here and fighting.make the most of the good days. It will get better. We have had short holidays and weekends away with her boys. Keep positive.
