Hello all. I’m a senior ENT surgeon in the UK, age 60 years generally fit and well. Had unexpected haematuria and a kind colleague did CT scan on me today. 2cm TCC bladder with no invasion on the scan. I’m having TURB tomorrow. I haven’t had a chance to discuss with the surgeon regarding further therapy but he did mention mitomycin single shot. I’m as ignorant in this field as anyone and would value any personal recommendations from experience. How long is recovery from this procedure as my managers would want me back ASAP due to very long ENT waiting lists!! Many thanks.
Thank you so much and yes I’m trying to keep myself hydrated.
Yes you’re right. Currently I’m going through phases of optimism and negative thoughts.
Hi Hopeful786,Those are common feelings at the start.I used to find a hot water bottle over the bladder helpful following a TURBT and regular painkillers if needed.Best wishes Jane
Thanks for sharing your experience. Best of luck to you!
Yes that's a good tip Jane, the warmth really helps
Can totally understand that, I am still like that now, and I am in to year 3, sometimes it's like I have never had cancer at all and life goes along but then back to hospital and it all comes flooding back in......
Thanks. Do you go to the hospital for just check ups or further treatments?? And any psychological support available where you are?
I hope you are feeling a bit better after your TURBT. It can make your internals feel bruised and sore for a few days. Painful urination leads to a dilemma: Drink more to keep hydrated and flush the bladder, or drink less because peeing hurts so much. The former is the wise choice, as many have suggested. I drink about 4 litres of water per day. I must try the suggested Barley water because plain water is so boring. Best wishes for a swift recovery.
