I have just been diagnosed and I am waiting for an operation date
Most of the posts on here are about or from men
I would love to hear from women who have had treatment
I have only been in hospital twice and both times I went private with BUPA which was paid for by my company
Private hospitals are like hotels but they are wasted on the sick, I was too poorly to enjoy the lovely food etc
The speed in which my referral is going at I am not sure even a private hospital would be this quick
Hopefully I will be in and out the same day and home in time for tea, Tina x
Hello Tina, they kept me in for the first TURBT overnight. But I had two subsequent TURBT's and I was in and out the same day. I hadn't been in the private hospital five minutes and they handed me a menu. I must admit the NHS have always attended to me swiftly so no complaints in that area.
Keep us all posted, take care, Chris
I assume it's a TURBT operation, as others have mentioned it's usually a 1 or 2 days, and expect catheter until they can see it running clear then you will go home once you have passed urine naturally a few times. I've had two TURBT's, to remove PT1 non-invasive tumours. The second TURBT was so much easier due to the size of the tumours and there was no need for a catheter and home in a day. I then had Laser December 2022) for the removal of 2 very small tumours PTa non-invasive tumours, it took 20mins and back home feeling great - I think the Laser is a new addition for bladder tumour removal rather than having a TURBT (I am based in Surrey and it's available in my area)
Following on from my TURBT's and Laser I've had 9 lots of BCG with another 3 booked at the end of February 2023.. Since first diagnosis back in September 2021 the BCG appears to have stopped them coming back and any new one's have been very small, fingers crossed no more after the BCG in Feb. Please make sure you drink plenty of water before and after the op and avoid any caffeine drinks, your bladder love's Water,
Don't be scared to ask your Oncology team questions, once they take a biopsy then they will know more about the type of Tumour's, please stay positive as there are many many people living and controlling bladder cancer. There is a Fight Bladder Cancer Support group on Facebook which I dip in and out of which has some great advice. Stay positive and keep your mind on healing and straying strong. xxx
Hi Tinkerbell I'm female awaiting TURBT . I'm in Cornwall but had bladder tumour in 2019 and now have return of a tumour lower bladder. I was discharged in first lockdown after being told I needed 6 monthly check ups. This time I'm armed with questions ready for my pre op phone call. Last time after TURB I peed once and was apparently ready for home. I've read messages where people do several pees before discharge. I didn't even know what chemical was used the first time. I had one dose of a chemical the first time as my tumour was low grade .
This time I am an overnight stay . I'm still awaiting scan on kidney results . Everything feels slow , but if you feel confused you can ask your allocated cancer nurse any questions. I wish you welland we have wonderful brave members on this site .
