Got a scan on Monday after being told I've got BC doctor wants to send me to have my kidneys checked via a CT urogram.
Has anyone else had to have this procedure?
Thanks x
Hi . I've had several of these over the years along with full upper body scans. Had a full scan a couple of weeks ago and waiting for results. Nothing to worry about. Painless except for needle in back of hand or arm. They inject dye which highlights kidneys, bladder and associated bits. The dye feels a bit strange. Just a warm feeling and makes you tingle a bit. Just another piece of the jigsaw. Best wishes.
Hi LollyS, Also waiting to have a CT scan done. Hope it goes ok on Monday.
and others starting along the path. I was so naïve at the beginning. Cancer was not mentioned and I had never heard of bladder cancer. I was just told I had a mass in my bladder. After my first TURBT and the mass was removed, I thought that was it, job done, and get back to normal. At my follow up appointment, that's when I was told I had cancer. I thought my world had fallen apart. That's when I found this group and the members here helped me through my darkest days. I could say things here which I couldn't say to my family. That was eight years ago and some of the folks who helped me through it are still here now and I owe them my thanks. So here I am along with other old timers, still kicking. Just telling you this to hopefully give you some reassurance that there is hope as you go through a scary time. Best wishes.
I've had several. You don't need to undress, but be sure not to have any metal eg belt buckle. You have to drink plenty in the hour or so beforehand (about a pint but don't overdo it). Will probably have a canula put in your arm for the dye & often they use a diuretic too. You have to empty bladder before it starts, scan takes about 20min, by which time you will be full again. The diuretic makes you fill frequently for several hours after - I can usually just about manage 30 - 40 min journey home! Can make you feel a bit washed out for a day or two.
If you're lucky, they'll position the screen where you can see the scan going on. Otherwise, just lie back and rest!
