  • Hi and welcome to the group. I had to google SPC (supra public catheter). Does that mean you have some other existing condition? Presumably you have had plenty of medical assessments to be heading for bladder removal.

Lots of us here have had bladder removal with various different paths beforehand. Age and current fitness level does have some bearing on recovery time, but it does take months to full regain strength and energy. You may find that you are more comfortable & feel fitter at the end of it all.

Recovery is a gradual process. A first you will be very tired and weak and will need someone to do household tasks, cooking etc. You should be up and about though, and able to do personal care. Week by week you will be able to do more. When I had my op I was age 57. By 6 weeks I was going out to leisure activities again, at 3 months a phased return to work and by 6 months doing all usual things. Hope all goes well for you. Feel free to ask any questions.

  • Hi. I am in hospital at the moment. I had my bladder removed last week. After a couple of days I was going for small walks around the ward. This week every day has been different some days I feel okay and others really tired. But apparently this is normal. Hopefully I am going home tomorrow. It is not as bad as I imagined it to be. But you will feel very tired, every day gets a little better. Hope all goes well I'm sure it will.Best wishes Helen.xx

  • Ele, that is great news, glad it went well. Take it easy, it’s not a race, and be careful not to overdo it. Wishing you all the best, Leo

  • Thank you. You are right, I think a few times I tried to push myself to do more and ended up exhausted. Hope all is going well for you.Best wishes Helen.xx
