I can’t believe it’s 4 years today since I was told I wouldn’t live long without a cystectomy.A huge thank you to everyone on here who has supported me through the slow recovery and mum’s death.Love to you all Jane xx

  • Yes, the usual stuff-heart check, height, weight, BP and covid/MRSA swabs etc. They are not done at the hospital now but at a clinic in the centre of the city in a one system with no parking! Not the best.

  • I shall have to get one when I move.

  • Sheffield, by any chance?! just a couple of disabled bays by the clinic door, if you can get in one. Nothing for anyone with no Blue Badge.

  • Hi

Yes, indeed it’s Sheffield! The nearest car park seems a long way away and we’re really concerned about my father in law walking from there. It will probably be a case of dropping him off and then parking and going back to sort him out. I had all my pre ops at the Hallamshire-at least there’s the multi storey car park there.

  • Hi SarahH21, if you have another supporter who can go in with dad, as well as whoever is driving, you may well get away with the driver waiting in the car near the entrance. The Hallamshire told us that floor J where pre-ops used to be done in a very good 'conveyor belt' setup, had been converted to a covid ward. Only other option is checking out the park-and-rides if he could get on/off whichever buses pass along. is it Arundel Gate? Might cost no more than parking! Let us know how you get on,

  • Hi Denby

Not sure… I have a blue badge myself though I can’t drive, but I won’t be doing the trip tomorrow-in any case I’m guessing it would be near impossible to get one of the 2 blue badge spaces. He’s struggling a bit now with walking-has a limp as he has the other issues apart from the cancers. Not sure how he’d do on the park and ride. feel sorry for him.

The system at the Hallamshire ran like clockwork the 3 times I had pre ops there! I’ll report back on this new system afterwards

    Sarah xx.

  • Shame you and your Blue badge won't be going. Thing is that with one the driver can use the yellow line as long as not causing an out-and-out obstruction, even if the bays are already taken.

If dad's mobility is going, worth looking into getting him his own, as if you hadn't enough to do?! To be fair Mr D has been to that city centre clinic twice and they were OK.

  • Takes about 1.5 hrs to get to Sheffield from ours and it’s always a long day going for any appointments so I’m giving it a miss. It might be a thing for him to apply for his own badge though-good idea! Mine has certainly proved invaluable for us and I can now do simple things like go to the supermarket. Not much for some people, but a real help for me.

  • I wish more thought went into parking.I don’t drive but have struggled many times to assemble a wheelchair in a tiny parking space. The car park in the purpose built health centre here has been badly designed.Although there are a couple of disabled spaces they are incredibly tight.John finds it hard as he has to open his car door fully in order to lift his legs in and out.
