Hi everyone, I have my urology referral appointment date 17th April (been waiting since jan for intermittent visible blood/clots in urine).
now i have the date, Im somewhat nervous about the appointment. I have had no more episodes of visible blood the last weeks, only flank pain everyday controlled with pain relief.
As the bleeding episodes have now stopped Im not sure I even qualify for the referral.
Should I still attend this appointment? Has anyone had intermittent blood loss thats gone away like this?
Any advice would be appreciated
Paula
Hello Paula
I had what I thought was back ache so applied ibuprofen gel liberally. The following day I had blood in my urine which is one of the possible side effects of too much ibuprofen so I dismissed it.
Six weeks later I had major haematuria which set off a series of events that saved my life.
Blood in your urine is not normal so please do go to your appointment.
CB
I may appear to be listening but in my head I'm all at sea.
Definitely go to your appointment Paula. Seeing blood and clots when no infection is present is not normal. After seeing a huge amount of blood initially I didn’t see any visible blood after that but my doctor did an urgent referral thank goodness as I was diagnosed with Bladder cancer.
Best wishes Luce
Hi Paula, yes definitely attend! I had minimal visible blood in urine over 3 years which GP failed to diagnose as a bladder problem. Then like CB I had gross haematuria which prompted a visit to A+E. I had a large tumour which had been overlooked. Go to your urology appoinment it may save your life. Sending best wishes.
In September I noticed blood in my urine. I referred to GP who arranged an appointment with Hospital Urology. Cystoscopy showed tumour. I have no way of knowing this existed as I have no pain or other symptoms. Without the referral I would be totally unaware that a problem existed. GO.
Hi Paula
You should definitely attend this appointment - I had only one episode of blood in urine last June. GP told me to go to A&E as I had only one functioning kidney, I was then put on the cancer referral pathway and diagnosed with aggressive bladder cancer in August.
Your bleeding may be as a result of something far more innocuous but the only way to find out is to have the tests.
Please make sure you go xx
Scarlet
Hi Warrior Scarlet, I read you had a neo bladder. How are you getting on with it? X
Hi there - I will need to update my profile! I ended up with a stoma as my surgeon didn’t like the look of one of my lymph nodes (turned out to be related to my other cancer which is dormant at the mo). BTW, managing life with a stoma has been fine for me - not sure if you have/may be going down this route. x
Scarlet
I’m glad it’s worked out for you, Scarlet.
My husband is due to have a neo bladder, but he could end up on the the day with a stoma (as in your experience). I hear lots of positive experiences of living with a stoma so we’ll trust the surgeon. X
