Hi Everyone (new to the forum)
I have just had TURBT surgery to remove the tumour which turned out to be
Stage Ta
Grade G1
My concern is that I was not given the single dose Mitomycin chemotherapy at the end
Should I be concerned and is there anything I can do now such as get private treatment?
Many thanks for any advice
Hi zNikki and welcome to the group. It is not unusual to not have a chemo wash after a TURBT when the grade is so low. They would have deemed it unnecessary. G1 is the least aggressive type of cell and Ta means it was just sitting on the bladder surface. You should have regular follow up flexi checks to see how things are going. Best wishes.
Chemo was is often at the discretion of the surgeon - as rily says, probably deemed no necessary. No need to go private unless you want the luxury! BC is highly recurrent, so regular checks are needed & any new tumours removed. Unless stage/grade become higher, no other treatment needed. Checks will be frequent at first, but will become further apart if all clear.
Take things easy for a week or two & drink plenty to recover from your TURBT.
Hi zNikki and may I add my welcome. My husband's was G3 pTa and after one TURBT it had been intended to do the 'chemo wash', but there was a mistake about the prescription to have the dose available from the pharmacy, so it wasn't done. G3 being very much more aggressive than yours, all they did was then get him in for 3x once a week, just to be on the safe side. That was several years ago and he hasn't had any recurrences. So I hope that offers some reassurance given yours was as low as G1.

Hi zNikki I had a TURBT for 6 tumours in my bladder in Feb this year ... non invasive (Ta G2) so during surgery the surgeon didn't consider I needed mitomycin at the time. Obviously this was discussed at the multi disciplinary team meeting and I was told that if I only had had 1 tumour I wouldn't have needed any further action apart from regular cystoscopies at 3 month intervals, but because I had multiple tumours I would need mitomycin course of 1 per week for 6 weeks to try and make sure all cancer cells were killed. I could see that this was perfectly logical. I start my first mitomycin appointment on the 18th April. With love x Kathy x
Hello mole35, I had small multi superficial high grade non invasive tumours. I had 3 separate TURBT's in 2020. Subsequently treated with BCG over the next few months. Do keep us posted on how the mitomycin treatment goes, I guess you will be advised the same about diet and what you should drink. At least you know what the plan ahead will be it allows you to get your mind around it all. Take care.
Thank you @Jacaranda07 for your best wishes. Will definitely keep you posted over the next several weeks. All the best to you to as we all move forward xx
