Anyone experienced any problems with catheter entry while getting BCG ? Had my 3rd treatment today ( no problem previous 2 ) nurse changed to curved end and eventually went in after saying she felt something stopping it twice. She did mention swollen prostate and stricture but said will monitor till I’ve finished my 6 treatments then see what’s going on with camera.Any information/advice appreciated all the best everyone stay safe
Hello Jghftm1.
I've not had problems with the BCG - done 9 now. As BANTAMFAN wrote; drinks lots. If I haven't mentioned it before, try Robinsons Lemon Barley Water; makes drinking 2 litres of water a lot easier and flushes out the bits. If I have mentioned it before, just put it down to my age.
I was told that strictures are unlikely but.... I have a slightly enlarged prostate and can really feel the tube going round it. Not painful, but i could happily do with out it! Afraid I can't really help you.
I hope that they find out when you have your cystoscopy.
All the best.
Gandulf.
Hi Jghftm1,
When getting BCG there were a couple of times when there were issues for me with the catheter being inserted.
At my 1st BCG the nurses tried different catheters and eventually ended up with a little bleed so they had to stop. They then knew for later weeks not to use the standard catheter and also got my Dr to prescribe some tablets to help relax the prostrate.
Some weeks the insertion was straightforward with no issues and some weeks the nurse had to work a bit harder. On my 6th again ended up with a bit of a bleed so they had to stop and a new appointment was made for the following week.
When I went the following week the nurse reckoned inserting the catheter when the bladder is full could be easier, so they inserted the catheter first and did the urine test on what came out - instead of providing sample before catheter insertion.
There didn't appear to by any rhyme nor reason to the weeks when everything was straightforward compared to weeks where there were issues so not sure why there was such a difference.
Thanks 5amsung much appreciated see what this next goes like it’s always an option
