Good afternoon all

I am having my stents removed tomorrow, its a 3 hour appointment, can anyone give me a hint at the process? Seems a long time to pull 2 tubes out Relaxed️

  • Hi Tony W,Is the appointment with the stoma nurse ? Mine only took a few minutes to remove and I hardly felt a thing. How is your recovery going ? Jane

  • Hi Jane, yes with my stoma nurse.

Recovery feels like it's going very well thanks, only 12 days since surgery but managed a couple of hours out around the supermarket yesterday.

Feel stronger every morning when I wake up Relaxed️Thumbsup

  • If they are the thin stents that are in your stoma bag then they shouldn’t take long to remove.I felt a slight tugging sensation but it didn’t last long.Good to hear you are doing well. It’s important to listen to your body at the start of the recovery because it’s easy to do too much when you start feeling stronger. Its best to eat little but often and build up your walking distances gradually.I used to find and I still do that I would start feeling sick if I did too much.Hopefully each week you will feel stronger but be prepared for some days/weeks not being as good as others.Jane

  • As the others have said, it's quite quick and painless. I seem to recall being told to take a deep breath and breath out slowly as they pulled. I expect they allow plenty of time just in case of any issues. I'd had mine in for 6 weeks (with neobladder) to prevent scarring, because of an initial small leak. By then, my skin had started growing over the stitches which was painful. They booked me to stay in overnight and gave me antibiotics as a precaution. So was in hosp about 24 hours for no more than about half an hour's attention!
