  • Hi Dippy,

Beat of luck for your BCG induction course.

I was a bit worried about the catheter, but the catheter for the BCG is smaller than the TURBT, which was a relief for sure.

The catheter is only in for a few minutes whist they insert the BCG. I stayed in the hospital for the two hours and left after my first wee.

You then need to wash yourself and bleach the toilet after each wee ( for 6 hours). Only you should also use that toilet for the six hours also. I'm sure your nurse etc has been through this with you.

I didn't find the BCG too bad and had no issues with the induction course, but this differs for many people.

I struggled at number 18 and decided to halt the treatment.

    Wishing you all the best.

  • Hello, thank you, read your bio on your page, that's a lot of treatment isn't it.?  Guess that's the same road I am heading down.  Wishes for you

  • Hi dont be too negative  I have sailed thru 18 bcg's with only minor discomfort. Some people do suffer from side effects more than others. You need to keep things in perspective there are 10000 cases of bc in the uk each year a lot of whom will be on bcg. Plus as it can be up to a three year course in any year there are many thousands undergoing the treatment. I dont think people who do ok tend to post, which is fine but a newly diagnosed patient can get the wrong impression of the treament.

    Best regards

  • Absolutely agree I had six instillations of Mitomycin and fifteen instillations of BCG with only minor discomfort and no side effects.

  • Excellent, I am pretty confident, had first cancer (separate one) in January removed...seemed to sail through that one okay ...this cancer has taken me a bit on the hop, but I'm going forward without prejudice and taking it as it comes...it is very helpful to hear good reports I do have to say ...so yours is very welcome.

  • Thank you too...good feelings towards a treatment always very welcome...

  • Hi DippyHippy,

Good luck with it all…. It’s a long journey but you can and will get to the end…I’ve had 18 BCGS, funnily enough, 12-15 was awful for me.( anxiety not the actual treatment) but 16-18 has been very straight forward…

    stay positive, drink plenty…

  • Hi Dippy Hippy, welcome to BCG club, there are a few of us on here currently. I am due to have number 19 in may. If you click on my bio I have recorded it for reference. Its definitely been doable with a few challenges along the way. I am determined to keep my bladder until I cant. Very grateful to the wonderful nhs and my very special CNS. I hope you feel as lucky and you sail through it , many do . Take care

    Much love Angela x

  • Thank you, read your bio, brave and strong lady, I hope I can be too...!!!  Me too, want to keep my bladder, and keep going...got myself pretty well up and back on my feet after my first unassociated cancer was removed in January.  Keeping positive.
