has anyone had an operation to cut tumour out before treatment..if so what kind of treatment did you hsve after x
Hi svh,
I had surgery to remove my tumour as first line treatment. A small portion of my tumour only had a 1mm clear margins so I was entered into the PLATO trial which consisted of 23 days of slightly reduced strength radiotherapy & mitomycin infusion day 1 of radiotherapy & capecitabine tablets twice daily, so similar to the regular.

I had surgery where they cut the area away plus margins but the surgeon said they found cancer cells so was sent to another hospital which specifically treated anal cancers. My oncologist originally thought they just took a biopsy but I specifically remember he said he had cut it out. This was later confirmed and the oncologist aid the area that showed on the PET scan was not all the cancer but the area he had cut away. I am assuming this was better as he got most of it out. I was incredibly sore after that though and it left me with an external pile.
