Hi everyone . I am pleased to announce that yesterday I finished my treatments
I'm over the blinking moon. I didn't ring THE bell but I said I'd sneak in and swing on it like quasimodo when I get the 'all clear'. Although I've hit a major milestone and I am truly elated boy oh boy am I suffering! All of my 'undercarriage' feels like it's been ran over by a truck and then blow torched and was told yesterday that it will get much worse over the next 10 - 14 days! I'm now bedridden on morphine every 2 hours plus paracetamol, ibuprofen and flamazine mixed 50/50 with cathejell on the rare occasions that I am actually awake which is only to do my John Wayne walking impression to the loo followed by sounds of a tortured 1970s horror movie victim. My nurse told me that sleeping a lot isn't a bad thing but to put alarms into my phone so that I'm drinking and eating as I get very dehydrated. I was given polymem dressings for my groin area (knicker elastic area) but I can't remember if I put the cream on first (morphine brain). Does anyone here have asthma and did the treatment make it worse? Today I am going to try and stay awake long enough to read some of my detective book, it's about a serial killer so that should cheer me up lol. Xxx
You’re right Twigley, we all have a lot in common yet we all react differently.
If you listen to your friends & play it safe, you’ll be bored & frustrated. If you overdo it, your body will moan at you for a day or three. My experience is that it’s trial & error & I keep getting it wrong because there’s no way to know except with hindsight xxx toni
Mecca I love your determination! I started very nervously in December with a walk round the block, then over a couple of weeks trying a bit further but padded up & close to my loo, & for the past 2 months I’ve been walking about 4 miles a day - except one glorious day when I did 6 miles & felt awful for a few days afterwards xx toni
Hi Mecca, yes, the nurse said wet the polymem lightly with sterile water ( well I just used drinking water from the tap) , I dip my hand in water and flick drops off my fingers about 4 or 5 times. I cut 3 pieces about 6ins long out of one packet and use one at a time. The nurse said push it into your bits, up your bum crack and onto your swollen labia, she said it is for radiation burns and normally it would be changed every 3 to 4 days but we botty girls and boys are a different matter and we change ours at least every day. It can get messy with urge poo but I wiped a little bit off with tissue or just chucked it if it was too much. So I generally had 2 a day during the 14 days after treatment. One a day after that and today none ! She gave me close fitting white nylon pants with legs and told me not to use any other creams with it although I did use a little morphine gel for 2 days when it was really bad. I bought boys pants from MnS with legs and they are pretty good too at holding it in place, it sort of sucks onto you, and shapes to your body a bit. I thought it was a right faff to begin with, nurse said cut slivers to go in your knicker groins but I just used one piece as it came off the roll, clenched it between my buttocks and layered it onto my labia. It felt bulky at first but I soon got used to it and after a day or two I had it on 24/7. It was wierdly satisfying to see the way it pulled "stuff" out and away from the area, blood and everything was absorbed, yellow stuff, white stuff, and as you say it was cool and soft, it stopped infection and eased pain. Give it a try, it worked for me.
best wishes comrade
Sarah
Right Sarah, I've put some on/in my pants first time wearing a pair for nearly 3 weeks. I'm going to try and keep them on overnight. When all the skin peeled from my groin area and I started using the polymem it healed pretty quickly but I didn't know it could go on the intimate bits. I'll let you know how I get on xxx
