Does anyone know what this means on my MRI report as far as survival rate? I'm having radiation and chemotherapy now before surgery to remove tumor.  Its 5.5 cm x 3 cm.

  • Hi  I'm unsure if T3C is categorised the same here in the UK as it is in the USA. In the UK, T3C relates to size of the tumour (larger than 5cm), which yours is.  In the UK, N describes whether the cancer has spread to the lymph nodes. I have not come across the MRF+ reference in relation to anal cancer but am aware that this is a term used in relation to MRI scans in relation to rectal cancer. Please right click on the following link which is a link to the Bowel, Colon and Rectal Cancer Group. They may be able to assist in relation to the MRF+ comment  https://community.macmillan.org.uk/cancer_types/bowel-colon-rectum-cancer-forum/    Please be aware though that the survival rates for each stage that are available on the internet are not particularly helpful as they sometimes contain outdated statistics, plus they cannot tell you what will actually happen to you. The best person to ask is your Oncologist who will all your results to hand and is best placed to give you the most accurate guide to your particular survival rate (although that will not be set in stone). Please let you know if you have any more queries. All the best, Bev

  • Hi Marykat, google says MRF stands for mesorectal fascia. Here’s a link to a site with a fairly clear explanation & some good drawings of the different stages:

Good luck with the treatment, Toni
