Hi, had my 1st treatment session today. I was a bit apprehensive but wasn't as bad as I'd imagined. However it took them 4 attempts to get the canula in my hand for the chemo. Hand is a bit sore tonight but at least it will just be chemo via tablets going forward with the radiotherapy.
Hi Izzy59 , it can be a long exhausting day that first one can’t it? I think a lot of it for me was emotional exhaustion, fear of the unknown, but as soon as I realised how painless the radiotherapy sessions were, how quickly they were over & the chemo infusion was over & done with I definitely settled down & the daily hospital visits soon became routine.
Like you I had a struggle with the cannula for the mitomycin & after several attempts the nurse ended up putting it in between the base of my thumb & my wrist, mine was also a bit sore but it was little & nothing. I woke up a couple of days later with a couple of small mouth ulcers & felt ever so slightly nauseous but that lasted around half a day & that was that.
You’ll soon find your rhythm over the next few days & before you know it it’ll all be done, just remember be kind to yourself & rest when you need to. I hope the rest of your treatment goes smoothly.
Nicola
Hi Izzy59,
Well done for getting through day 1. It’s such a big one. So much to take in and of course all the anxiety of the unknown.
A tough time with the cannula and you must be quite bruised but thankfully it’s tablets now.
Just want to wish you well for your treatment journey and hope that all goes as well as possible. You can start to cross off the days now.
xx
