Hello, all!

It's Matthew here from the Online Community Team.

We're hoping to put together a helpful blog and video that addresses the most common 'travel insurance with a cancer diagnosis' questions. We'd also like to cover tips on 'things I wish I'd known' when taking out travel insurance.

So, we'd love to hear from you on any of the following:

  • What do you think the most common 'cancer and travel insurance' question is?

  • What do you wish you'd known about getting travel insurance with a cancer diagnosis?

  • Are there any tricks, tips, or warnings you'd like to know, or think others should know?

We'll be putting the best questions/suggestions forward for an expert in the travel insurance industry to answer, so don't be shy!

Over to you. What would you ask a travel insurance expert?

  • Hi Matthew

Thanks for posting this and I'll start the ball rolling.

What do you think the most common 'cancer and travel insurance' question is?
I think the one that gets asked the most is "can anyone recommend a company that provides reasonably priced insurance". It seems that even when treatment has finished those of us who have had cancer are still heavily penalised.

What do you wish you'd known about getting travel insurance with a cancer diagnosis?
That it can take a lot of phoning around to get quotes. Often the answers you can tick on an online quote don't exactly fit the person's circumstances, eg type of cancer, treatment, etc so you end up having to phone anyway to find out how you should answer the question.

Are there any tricks, tips, or warnings you'd like to know, or think others should know?
One tip/warning would be to make sure you declare every pre-existing medical condition, even if you think it's irrelevant as insurance companies will always look for ways to not pay out and not declaring something could be just the reason they need.

Why isn't it possible to get insurance to cover someone who isn't travelling but their partner family member is? Quite a few people come to the group looking to go on holiday for maybe a week while their partner/family member stays at home. However, they struggle to find cover that allows a holiday to be cancelled if their family member becomes seriously unwell on the lead up or while they're away.

If I think of anything else, I'll add it.
