I am having ongoing treatment for tumour on my chest wall and doing well on letrozole and palbociclibs and my latest scan continue to show shrinkage. I want to go on a coach holiday to ireland including the republic and earlier this year went to Guernsey for £70 cost for 7days. This trip is 9 days next September 26 and costs about £1500 but the lowest is just over £500. It is ridiculous when I am fairly well and fit and the side effects are mostly mouth ulcers. Has anyone any suggestions as it is really too much for me to pay.
Hello! It’s great to hear that your treatment is going well and that you’re feeling fit despite the side effects — that’s such an achievement. Travel can be expensive, but it’s wonderful that you’re thinking about staying active and enjoying life.Speaking of staying active, I came across an article with exercises you can do at your desk: betterme.world/.../ — even small, simple movements can help maintain strength and circulation, which is especially helpful when dealing with treatment side effects or limited mobility.
No but thank you . This trip is local firm and going to at least one places other don’t . I will look further afield if can’t get on preferred trip but will make no difference to my travel insurance problem thanks for suggestion
Hi lorneslady4225c3 and a very warm welcome to the group which I hope you'll find is an informative place to be.
Unfortunately, it can be more difficult to find reasonably priced travel insurance when a cancer diagnosis is involved. Have you had chance to look through the 'recommended travel insurance' and 'recommended travel insurance 2023-24' threads yet as you'll find lots of suggestions for travel insurance there? As there are lots of recommendations it's probably best to make a list before settling down to phone or do online quotes.
I do hope you can find some more reasonably priced insurance so that you can go ahead and book your holiday.
Anne
Hi lorneslady, I also have secondary BC but in the liver and have done a lot of travelling since my diagnosis. I spent a lot of money last year on insurance thinking it would be my last year of going abroad but thankfully I’m still stable and doing not too badly with side effects so I’ve had a few short breaks this year. I couldn’t afford what I spent last year and found insurewith which was a fraction of the price! They ask very specific questions so it’s tailored to you. I even got a reasonable quote when I thought one of my tumours had grown. I think if you’ve been admitted at AE due to infections recently it may be more tricky. Hope this helps, good luck with your journey and enjoy holidays! Sounds like you’re doing really well! Xx
Thank you so much that is really helpful and uplifting - you seem to have been very brave . I will certainly try Insurewith when I find a holiday as the one I wanted to go on is fully booked. I have also I think found an independent broker fairly locally and he was very helpful when I spoke to him yesterday. thank you so much as you give me hope I can go outside of the UK.
One thing I would like to know is whether you found it best to do single trip insurance rather than annual which may not be possible anyway with my kind of cancer. I find a lot of the questions all posed by similar companies do not ask the right questions for modern cancer treatment with drugs and do not recognise secondary breast cancer,. Yes I have been lucky so far. Many thanks
Annual v single trip depends on several things including the comparative costs and how many trips you plan to take. Bear in mind that with annual cover if your condition changes or you develop new ones, need tests or have new treatment you still need to notify your insurance Ed and get agreement in writing that they will continue cover (often requiring an additional premium).
I don’t bother with the annual one for the resson thst you have to update them anyway if any slight thing changes. Think I’d rather just do it from scratch each time so no info is missing that mskrs it invalid but thats just me! Long may it continue for you and I don’t see why you can’t go abroad. Your situation sounds similar to mine . My consultant is happy for me to go as long as I don’t over do it!
