Hi All,

I have Advanced Prostate Cancer and have been searching online for quotes for the last few months. After being refused quotes 4/5 times from various providers, I decided maybe it would be better to actually speak to a person. I contacted " AllClear " spoke to David and was given a quote of £1661 for 12 days in Portugal October 21 single trip. I then called " MIA Travel Insurance ", spoke to a lovely lady called Sarah and after going through the medical screening was offered a quote of £280.74. I decided to buy the travel insurance and the policy documents came through the post yesterday. My wife and I can now go to Portugal in 5 weeks time to enjoy our 30th wedding anniversary thanks to MIA Travel Insurance. Hopefully this post can help people who are trying to get away after many months of lockdown and the uncertainty of travel insurance for cancer patients.

Take care,  Tom.

    1. Thanks Tom I will try MIA insurance as I'm about to give up
  • Thanks for the info.  I've just tried Saga and got a quote of £290 for one week to Portugal. (The quote from All Clear was £570 for a week).  I have a bone marrow disease and have recently had successful surgery for lung cancer.  I'll try MIA now and see if I can get it any cheaper.  Hope you have a great anniversary break.  UPDATE - online quote from MIA was £856 for one week. Think I'll try phoning them to see if it makes a difference.

  • Hi again,

After reading the replies on this thread it amazes me & frustrates me that the quotes can vary that much and unfortunately how some people are regularly refused cover altogether. As I said on my original post, I tried a minimum of 5 times before I received an acceptable quote and that was including  " cancer travel insurance specialists ". My cynical side put these " specialists " down to click bait to draw in and give hope to cancer sufferers longing for a holiday during probably the most upsetting & stressful time of their life, unacceptable.

We usually go away in March to Lanzarote so I will be looking again for travel insurance at the turn of the year. I will of course return to MIA Travel Insurance for an up to date quote but will still shop around for the best deal. It goes without saying if I find another provider which is suitable for cancer sufferers & their families, I will post on this forum.

  • Found a website called PayingTooMuch.com and I got the cheapest quote - one week's travel to Spain was £277.93 - hope that helps someone

  • I have been in touch with saga today as I have secondary breast cancer and they said they were unable to quote me!

  • That’s so strange when I got cover, unless it’s something to do with other questions they asked.
