I'm very sorry to hear that you expect to be diagnosed with bowel cancer next week.

I'm assuming your insurer is not prepared to continue cover at all, including for your trip, and has therefore cancelled the policy. They should still be liable to pay your loss as a result of having to cancel in accordance with the terms and limits under the policy if it was booked during the period they were insuring you. Have they refused to do this?

If they have refused to pay the costs of any cancelation is it possibly because you booked and/or took out insurance for your trip after you had symptoms or went to your GP? 

I’m assuming you’re planning to cancel the holiday so I think you need to go back to them to discuss making a claim.

Once you’ve had surgery and have treatment plan going forward then contact some of the insurance providers on Macmillan’s list. It’ll be more expensive than you’re used to but I have annual cover now although I do have to tell the company when anything changes eg tests, new treatments , waiting for tests etc.

Admiral gave me a rebate on the remaining months of the policy 

I still hope to go to China on October 5th but would prefer to be insured whatever the cost

Any advice and help as to which companies to approach would be welcomed

I know how difficult it can be to find reasonably priced travel insurance when you've had a cancer diagnosis and wondered if you've had chance to look through the members recommended travel insurance thread yet? There are lots of recommendations from others there so your best bet is to make a list and then settle down with a cup of tea and your phone to contact the insurers.

I've personally used payingtoomuch.com and goodtogoinsurance.com in the past.

I hope you're able to find some reasonably priced travel insurance and that you have a lovely holiday.

Macmillan have also recently entered into an arrangement with Lighthouse, another Tifgroup travel insurer, and will have vetted them during their due diligence procedures.
