Hello, I have secondary breast cancer, also, congenital hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, total thyroidectimy, sleep apneoa and arthritic knees.

I am going to Jamaica in 4 weeks, a holiday booked and paid for last year and covid postponed. I was then diagnosed with cancer last October.

I have already been declined insurance by Staysure and Insure Cancer, is there anyone with some suggestions, I'm getting desperate.

Thank you

  • Hi and a very warm welcome to the online community

A holiday in Jamaica sounds idyllic but unfortunately, as you've found, it can be more difficult to find travel insurance when you have had a cancer diagnosis.

Have you had chance to look through the 'recommended travel insurance' thread yet, as it's where you'll find previous recommendations from other forum members? If not, clicking on the link I've created will take you straight there.

Most people say that it is best to phone the insurance companies rather than try and do online quotes as often at the end of the online quote it will tell you to phone the company and you'll then have to go through all the information again. Also sometimes the broker can refer to the underwriters to see if they would provide cover when an online quote might just give you a straight refusal.

Let us know how you get on

    Hi Latchbrook,

    Thankyou for replying so quickly.

Unfortunately I have called both insurers, and with Insure Cancer they spoke to their underwriters, still no joy. I will carry on ringing around.

I have read, that some of your previous forum memebers have managed to get insurance excluding cancer, is this something that is still available, and if so, which companies are doing this? Does anyone know?

  • That's what I'll probably be looking for. I think the reply said it was with their bank account but don't think it said which bank

I believe it was Nat West. Good luck

  • Hi

Have you tried the recommendations in the thread I linked you to?

I have in the past been offered a price to exclude cover for my cancer but that was with a specialist camping insurer so not relevant for you.

My best suggestion is to work your way through the recommendations and you can always ask the insurer if they can quote with and without cancer cover. However, I would think very carefully about excluding cover for cancer as hospital treatment could be very expensive if you needed it while in Jamaica.

    Hi,

Yes, I've had a look at the thread, unfortunately, they won't give me insurance to go to Jamaica. Avant has said it will insure me for £473 single trip to Portugal, they wont even do Spain, or any Spainish islands.

To say I'm upset and feel low is an understatement.

  • I'm so sorry that you can't find any insurer willing to insure you for your planned holiday and it's no wonder that you feel upset and low.

If you haven't already you could try searching the British Insurance Brokers Association's travel medical insurance directory as they list insurers who specialise in people who have serious medical conditions.
