Hi my mum who is 84 went in hospital on 17th Sept with stomach pains

Came out on 1st Oct with uncureble bowel cancer stage 4

We all in shock don't know what to expect nothing

The hospital said no treatment will help just sent her home with some pain killers

She's been home 2 weeks and seems to be giving up from doing everything to just sitting in bed only time she gets up is to go toilet

We trying to get her sitting in chair and moving but just gets annoyed with us

She's not even watching TV ect

Plus if she's had enough off her dinner ect she hiding it or throwing it in bin

The last week she's been saying some random things

And been feeling sick in the mornings

We have put in for palliative care but not heard from them yet

We are worried what to expect ect

  • Hello Jenny

Welcome to the forum, it is always difficult to learn of a cancer diagnosis, but when you are also told that there is no treatment available, I can't imagine how difficult that has been for you, or for your Mum.

I notice that you posted in New to the Community, and it is important that you are able to reach out here and get support, but more important that support is available to Mum who by your description above, clearly struggling with the information she has received.

Have you contacted her GP, they should have received the hospital update and be aware of her diagnosis, there should be things put in place to ensure Mum is as comfortable as possible at this time.

There is a section on this site, HERE where information is provided which focuses us on preparing for the the passing of a loved one

These are very difficult times for you, and I truly hope that you are able to find the support from the palliative team soon. it may also be worth chasing them again.
