Just been told last week that my partner is stage 4 palliative care for oesophageal cancer. How do you cope and support with this awful news?

  • Hi ,

So sorry to welcome you here on such hard news, I can’t imagine what you are going through. I found my way to this group during the loss of my father, and so all I can say is everyone here is ready to listen, share their own experiences and be there for you when you need to take a minute for yourself.

In terms of how you “cope”, there’s no easy answer, you just muddle through the best you can but we are here if you need anything. There’s also some great charities and resources available, I was fortunate to have come across a couple when I needed them, but had I known how many others I would have definitely benefited, so please let me know if I can share some with you.

Thinking of you and your family and here if you want to talk.

  • Hi Toby21

I am sorry to read about your partner, stage 4 palliative OC is horrible news, but with some positive thought it may be that the treatment provided to your partner will enable them to have long term care, and many memories can be made.

Hop over to the OC forum, you will read many stories and get a lot of support for yourself and your partner.

My husband was diagnosed stage 4 palliative OC in May 2020 at the time he was very ill, today he continues treatment, and has returned to work 3 days a week (from home) we didn't think it would be possible that he would be here still, but he is and he continues to amaze, maybe this will be the same for your partner too.

Stay as positive as you can, as scary as this is...Sending you both strength.

Hi Lowe, that is encouraging to hear that your partner is still with you. What treatment is he getting? Is it chemo? Chris has been told not strong enough for that at moment. Have joined OC forum too thanks x
