Hello all,

My mum has recently been diagnosed with incurable lung cancer. It has come completely out of the blue especially being a lifelong non-smoker and really fit and healthy. My mum has gone from walking miles with the dog to being very unwell and it's a complete shock and I'm devastated. It's always been me and my mum against the world and unfortunately we don't really have support through friends and family. It's hard and I'm doing everything I can while juggling a full-time high pressured job. My mum is having chemo at the moment to try to slow the spread and I'm trying to be as positive as I can and strong for her and not focus on the prognosis and timescales but it's far from easy.

It would just be nice to hear from others going through the same sort of thing and any advice anyone may have. Similarly I'm here for others who just want to chat.

Thanks all.

  • Hi and welcome to the group, although I'm sorry to hear about your mum. You might like to have a look at our emotions page, which talks about what carers go through and how you can get help. It's the waiting game that can be tough. Results of scans, how well the treatment will work and all the other things we encounter on this marathon with our loved ones. Your mum must be finding you to be  a wonderful support. I think you're very wise not focusing 'on the prognosis'; it doesn't help trying to look too far into the future. Take it as it comes is the way I have found best with my husband.

    Hugs,

    LoobyLou
