Hello all. Hope I'm posting in right place... have any of you had pneumonia post transplant? I did at 5 months post ( they thought fungal) .... and now again 16 months post. They doing tests and not sure if fungal, bacterial or viral? Which have any of you had? I dont know which would be worse... viral cant be treated can it? So what happens if itgets worse. I'm worried. I have fevers and they not budged for 2 weeks at home on oral antibiotics. I'm in hospital now.
Many thanks
Jacqui ( jalola)
Yes, daughter began a rotten temp while she was here, a good 150 miles from her unit, on a cold foggy morning. She phoned, they asked her a couple of questions about our local general hospital and then asked if it would be possible to get her there, hubs drove all the way and left me with her, drive home again. Her CRP was indeed high and they admitted her immediately. They used inhaled Pentamidine as it hit the lungs straight away. And yes, they did that regularly till her temp and CRP came down enough. Then discharged her (and she was then going to stay north) and we had take home meds to wait for; a full 8 hours to wait! Pharmacy in hospitals can be really dreadfully slow!

Thankyou Moomy that sounds rough and horrible for your daughter... because I'm not responding to standard antibiotics they are now looking for antigens in my urine... legionella is one of them. They said mine could be a atypical bacteria...
I'm worried x
Thankyou thehighlander. I'm having a broncoscopy tomorrow and am worried about it. Have you had one before , or anyone else on here?
Many thanks

Sorry my head all over the place! I realise you responded about this before... apologies xxx
“Head all over the place”....... remember these days well - you will be fine........ the secret is not to overthink this....... just think what you have went through so far and you are still standing.
Come back and tell us how you got on ((hugs))
I agree with Mike, it’s REALLY hard to do, but try to rely on your specialists, they do know what they are doing and will all try their best to help make you better.
i know, in the meantime you’re panicking thinking they will never get you well again...
sending you big hugs xxx

Thankyou moomy. I think its bothering me more as all the blood tests, cultures etc have come back clear... so I'm baffled. They said this is last test to be done... I doubt it could be viral because my crp inflammation markers are REALLY high in the 200s.
We will see
Thankyou xxx
Update... had broncoscopy yesterday. Nothing showing yet. My team think this could be viral.
If nothing else is found they MIGHT send me home.
Has anyone else delt with viral pneumonia at home? I want to get back desperately for xmas... but I worry at home.
Thanks xxx
So good news that you MIGHT be getting home......... and lets hope you can. They will actually do all they can to get you home.
I was in hospital for all my Pneumonia treatments........ a few years back my wife had Viral Pneumonia and was at home on antibiotics during it all.....but had no other health issues.
((hugs))
As long as you keep checking your temp at home and act if it goes up again, (they will give you guidelines) all should be ok.
daughter managed hers once the initial bacterial stuff had been bumped off with antibiotics. It just took a while!
