Hi my husband has just been diagnosed with classic hodkins lymphoma stage/risk 3. His PET scan is booked for tomorrow, with beacop-dac starting on Monday. I've got so many questions and concerns, and losses already, as all of our animals horses, pigs and goats have had to be moved to somewhere they can be consistently be looked after. My other half is concerned hes never going to get them or his strength back hes 51. Up untill he discovered a lump in his neck 9 weeks ago hes been a healthy, fitand overactive, out doors person even his job is manual and outdoors. Hes been told hes not allowed to touch soil, animal poo or climb trees, which is basically our life. Any advice greatly received.

  • Hi  and a warm welcome to the Online Community, a Community that no one really looks to see themselves joining, and so sorry to hear about your husbands HL diagnosis.

A blood cancer diagnosis can bring a lot of confusion, stress and many questions. I know this as I was diagnosed with Non Hodgkin’s Lymphoma way back in 1999 so be encouraged, I am well and doing great.

At the moment everything is crazy, why can he not do the things he used to do?..... it’s all about infection risks, I was not allowed to hold one of my new born granddaughters..... but you do need to hear that is is temporary and life will return.

Talking with other people who are on the same type of journey can help a lot.

The Community is organised into support groups so you may want to start by joining our supportive Hodgkin lymphoma group as you will connect with others walking the treatment journey both as patient or family.

Follow the above link then choose ‘click to join' or ‘join’ when the page opens. You can then introduce yourself, post questions or just  join in with existing discussions by clicking on 'reply'.

Its always good to talk and the Macmillan Support Services provides lots of information, support or just a listing ear.

Most services are open 8am to 8pm, 7 days a week and it's free to call on 0808 808 00 00 have a look by Clicking here to see what is available and we also have our Ask an Expert section, but do allow two working days for replies from our expert team.

Our Online Information and Support Section  is a good place to find information covering diagnosis, treatments and pages covering most types of cancers.

    All the very best.
