HI,

Was directed here by relatives saying how great this community is, and am so lost right now I thought I might give it a try.

My dad was told yesterday after he's recent scan that he has secondary cancer in his lungs, lymph node and pelvis and there isn't anymore that they could do but offer chemo which may extend his life for 3 more months in top of whats left. This all stems from bladder cancer which he had 2 years ago and has only just been caught on his 6 monthly check up scan in September.

My dad is my rock and having lost my mum at an early age to abother illness he's always just been my main parent and my everything.

Its so hard to imagine this and the shock as he's really good in himself and he has no symptoms.

I just cant imagine not being able to call him in the evening or pop over and see him. I come from a big family and take some comfort in the fact we have each other but I am just so sad, angry and shocked. I just feel at 31 I havent had enough time with him and he's been through so much already.

Everything seems to now feel like before this news and after and I cant figure out how to make it from one day to the next.

I know everyone on here is going through something and as cliche as it sounds you dont think this will ever happen to you.

Anyway thanks for listening, just wanted to get something out.

I pray for everyone cancer is affecting.

Xx

  • Hi  and a warm welcome to the Online Community, a Community that no one really looks to see themselves joining, and so sorry to hear about your dad’s diagnosis.

A cancer diagnosis like this can bring a lot of confusion, stress and many questions on all the family but talking with other people who are on the same type of journey can help a lot.

The Community is organised into support groups so you may find our Carers only, Family and friends and Supporting someone with incurable cancer groups a great benefit as you will connect with others supporting family through their cancer journey.

Follow the above links then choose ‘click to join' or ‘join’ when the page opens. You can then introduce yourself, post questions or just  join in with existing discussions by clicking on 'reply'.

Its always good to talk and the Macmillan Support Services provides lots of information, support or just a listing ear.

Most services are open 8am to 8pm, 7 days a week and it's free to call on 0808 808 00 00 have a look by Clicking here to see what is available and we also have our Ask an Expert section, but do allow two working days for replies from our expert team.

    All the very best.
