Hi, my mum was told on the 3rd of November that she had cancer, we were later told that it was on her lungs, liver, kidneys and bones, last night we received the most awful news, we have been told she only has 2-3 months left. I am struggling with this diagnosis so badly as to me my mum has and is fine, she's in some pain and discomfort now but only the last few weeks, also my parents live over 300 miles away from me and with all this covid going on, I don't know whether I will get the chance to say goodbye. I am absolutely devestated, and I feel so alone, I don't have a partner or many friends in this area, it's just me and my kids, trying to be strong for them is hard Cry

  • Hi  and a warm welcome to the Macmillan Online Community, a Community that no one really plans to see themselves joining, and so sorry to hear about your mum’s diagnosis.

I actually lost my mum just a few weeks ago (not cancer) but was not allowed into see her as I am in the COVID Very Vulnerable group so could not go into the hospital to see her pass away.

A terminal cancer diagnosis brings a lot of confusion, stress and many questions but talking with other people who are on the same type of journey helps a lot.

You may find our Carers only, Family and friends and Supporting someone with incurable cancer groups a great benefit as you will connect with others supporting family through their cancer journey.

Follow the above links then choose ‘click to join' or ‘join’ when the pages opens.

You can then introduce yourself, post questions or just  join in with existing discussions by clicking on 'reply'.

Its always good to talk and the Macmillan Support Services provides lots of information, support or just a listing ear.

Most services are open 8am to 8pm, 7 days a week and it's free to call on 0808 808 00 00 have a look by Clicking here to see what is available.

You can use other methods to contact our Support Services (LINK) and we also have our Ask an Expert section, but do allow two working days for replies from our expert team.

A virtual ((hug)) coming your way.
